Support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and clubs is critical to the success of the Friends of Kananaskis Country. The Friends is a non-profit organization that runs exclusively on donations. We give thanks to all our supporters.
Government of Alberta Ministry of Forestry and Parks provided the Friends of Kananaskis with an operating grant for 2023-2024, which allowed the Friends to purchase equipment, hire staff and fund our operations. We are also completing the re-routing of the Powderface Creek trail in Public Lands and the Ministry of Forestry and Parks is funding this $240,000 project.
Calgary Foundation has become one of our most significant supporters. They have provided funding to assist in interpretive trail work, support for our trail stewardship program and new strategic plan, and implementing of the Human Use Management project in partnership with the Town of Canmore and Kananaskis Parks.
The Trans Canada Trail (TCT) supports the Friends of Kananaskis’ work by funding FKC to maintain sections of TCT that pass through Kananaskis Country. This year we have received funding to complete minor maintenance on Quaite Creek Trail, Bow Valley Trail and the High Rockies Trail. These sections are located within Bow Valley Provincial Park, Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park, Spray Valley Provincial Park, and Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
