Gallup: Higher Education Plunges in Public Confidence

A new poll shows a further erosion of public confidence in higher education as faculty and administrators reduce colleges and universities to mere academic echo chambers. The poll from Gallup and the Lumina Foundation found only 36% of adults have a great deal or a lot of confidence in higher education, a drop from 57% in 2015.

In my new book, “The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage,” I have a long chapter on the erosion of free speech and viewpoint diversity in higher education.

We previously discussed how surveys at universities show a virtual purging of conservative and Republican faculty members.  For example, last year, the Harvard Crimson noted that the university had virtually eliminated Republicans from most departments but that the lack of diversity was not a problem.  Now, a new survey conducted by the Harvard Crimson shows that more than three-quarters of Harvard Arts and Sciences and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences faculty respondents identified as “liberal” or “very liberal.” Only 2.5% identified as “conservative,” and only 0.4% as “very conservative.”

Likewise, a study by Georgetown University’s Kevin Tobia and MIT’s Eric Martinez found that only nine percent of law school professors identify as conservative at the top 50 law schools. Notably, a 2017 study found 15 percent of faculties were conservative. Another study found that 33 out of 65 departments lacked a single conservative faculty member.

Compare that to a recent Gallup poll stating, “roughly equal proportions of U.S. adults identified as conservative (36%) and moderate (35%) in Gallup polling throughout 2022, while about a quarter identified as liberal (26%).”

Universities have effectively purged faculty with values that reflect roughly half of this country. Students and taxpayers (for public universities) are treated as virtual captive audiences to a culture that runs from the left to the far left. In some cases, classes have moved from education to indoctrination, including universities which now employ “resident activists” or offer degrees in activism.

I have watched the steady erosion of intellectual diversity for 30 years and a rising intolerance for opposing viewpoints. Many students and their families are not keen on spending huge amounts on tuition to attend schools with little tolerance or exposure to conservative or libertarian or even dissenting views on major public issues.

While schools profess a desire for diversity, they continue to replicate their own views and values while excluding opposing views. Some openly support such exclusion. Sites like Above the Law have spent years ridiculing objections over the exclusion of conservative faculty.  Senior Editor Joe Patrice defended “predominantly liberal faculties” by arguing that hiring a conservative professor is akin to allowing a believer in geocentrism to teach at a university. So the views of roughly half of the judiciary and half of the country are treated as legitimately excluded as intellectually invalid.

Much like the media, which has sacrificed readership and viewership to advocacy journalism, academics continue this trend despite alienating much of the country and radically narrowing the range of thought on campuses.

Roughly one-third of respondents said that they have very little or no faith in such institutions at all.

There was a time when higher education enjoyed some of the highest levels of respect. Today’s faculty and administrators have destroyed that trust and their institutions by yielding to the impulse to exclude opposing viewpoints.

Some 68% said that higher education is going in the wrong direction. There are obviously a myriad of different factors at play from rising tuition costs to falling populations of college-aged students. However, polls are also registering opposition to the activism and extremism among faculty and administrators in our universities and colleges.

Not surprisingly, Republicans and independents are the most estranged from higher education. While trust of Democrats has also declined, a majority still have trust in higher education. That is hardly a shock when Democratic faculty now outnumber Republicans 10-1 and many departments reporting not a single conservative professor.

Now only 36% of respondents believe that a college education is worth the expense. If these were corporations, universities would be in a full panic and boards would be demanding a new organizational plan. However, these not-for-profits are more insulated from such market pressures and academics feel little pressure for reform.

Faculty members have shown that they will not voluntarily restore diversity of viewpoints. The only chance for any change will come from pressure by donors and, in the case of public universities, legislators. The alternative is to allow the academic echo chamber to continue to drown out opposing views and alienate prospective students.

  1. The White House feels they have got Joe’s meds right now, and will trot him out tomorrow for a “big boy press” conference, according to John Kirby, in a tacit acknowledgement that his press conferences to date have been preschool playtime.

    1. Correction, Biden will take his diaper off on Thursday, for those interested in watching the train wreck.

  2. “. . . they continue to replicate their own views and values while excluding opposing views.” (JT)

I used to ask econ *majors* whether they knew anything about the ideas of Bastiat, Say, Hazlitt, Smith (some of the intellectual giants of free market economics). The response was almost always: No. On the rare occasion the answer was “yes,” I asked how they gained that knowledge. “I went to the library.”

They did, however, have ample knowledge about Keynes, Marx, and their progeny.

P.S. It is hard for students to be interested in ideas that are not taught by their professors.

    1. Slow and stupid New George, do you not see how higher education treats those who are intelligent conservatives? Have you not noted how children are graduating and finding their degrees don’t lead to jobs? Have you not noted uncontrolled hatred and threats of pro-Hamas persons calling for the death of Jews? Hatred is being taught in these progressive institutions. That is what progressives rely on: hatred.

      1. S. Meyer,
        Not just hatred.
Also destruction. They tear everything down. They do not build.

        1. They don’t know how to build, Upstate. However, they depend on large businesses for votes and money because they can be exchanged for political benefits.

      2. Intelligent conservatives? LOL!! More like whiny complainers and moaners. All they do is complain they are being discriminated because they are conservative.

Real conservative intellectuals already populate university campuses and colleges. The reality is there aren’t that many because conservative ideas are not very popular or interesting to students. Only a small fraction do have an interest. In academia conservative views are just in the minority because their ideas have not changed or improved. Some may find them interesting and thoughtful, but still remain stale compared with the overall options colleges and universities offer.

        1. Slow and stupid George doesn’t know what he is talking about. If he did, he would provide evidence to support his slow and stupid comments.

I provided you with a list of conservative policies. Take note: everyone, slow and stupid, is unable to respond.

      1. “Everything in George’s world has to be “new””

That is why I called him New George, but within minutes, everything he says is found to be ignorant and a waste of time.

That is why he is now known as slow and stupid George.

      2. Everything in George’s world has to be “new”

Only when he can’t find support for his supposedly Constitutional racist Kluxxer views for why Obama and Harris (and Americans born to servicemen while those troops were overseas) aren’t eligible to be president. Why because of one paragraph a Prussian wrote long before The Declaration Of Independence, never mentioned by the Founders in their debates concerning the position of president.

Most normal Americans would consider them completely unsuitable – not ineligible; that their skin color or whether they were born inside or outside the USA doesn’t matter. That instead, they are unworthy of being in the White House due to their racism, divisive race hatred, pandering and willingness to engage in police state fascism.

Kluxxer George doesn’t care about any of that – he just zooms in to focus right on on the principles of his post Civil War Confederate Democrat Kluxxer roots.

      3. Not new….interesting. Students don’t find conservative ideas interesting because they already see them in reality and most don’t find them appealing. They largely involve denigrating and casting others as morally corrupt and “unamerican.” It’s the judgmental attitude that comes with most conservative ideas and views.

        1. “They largely involve denigrating”

Wrong, they provide policy which you cannot respond to and instead denigrate yourself Slow and Stupid.

    2. Breaking

      Three deans fired at Columbia.

I guess their ideas weren’t new and fresh enough.

    3. “Please tell me how much confidence you, yourself, have in colleges and universities — a great deal, quite a lot: 56% of Democrats/leaners”. Overwhelming non-conservative support there.

“Republicans’ Low Confidence Because of Perceived Politics, Agenda”. “By contrast, Democrats with low confidence in U.S. colleges are much more likely to cite issues dealing with practical aspects of higher education — saying colleges are too expensive, are not well-run or have deteriorating quality, or that college graduates aren’t able to find jobs”.

The republicans simply put the democrats’ concerns into a more succinct argument. Colleges are more expensive, more poorly run, are at lower quality, and do not prepare kids for jobs PRECISELY because of the political agenda and politics of the left. School is more expensive and lower quality because of the influx of sub-standard students and teachers pushed into the system because of Politics and the leftist agenda (if you cannot control HS curricula, get ’em in college). These kids are screwed and the standard kids’ and better have a worse experience because of carrying the weight and expense of the sub-standards.

    1. No, its not worth it. Lets go to the Hospital and ask the patients how it should run.

      Idiot

        1. Slow and stupid George, why not respond to what he said? He had a point, but you couldn’t answer it, nor could you respond to the ten conservative points. Here they are again.

        2. This is rich, coming from the most ignorant troll on this blog.

You’ve been proven ignorant approximately 113 times here.

I’m not sure it’s a choice, in your case.

Ignorance is not listening to teenagers—-Svelaz George

          1. That wasn’t a teenager ignorant anonymous. If you went to the link and read for yourself you would have understood that.

Clearly you’re suffering from your inability to recognize your own ignorance. Look up Kruger-Dunning. But I suspect you still won’t get it.

            1. Slow and Stupid George, Anonymous said, “You’ve been proven ignorant approximately 113 times “ It’s now 114 times.

    2. Kluxxer George lied in claiming that a tenured professor was instead a conservative student:
Here’s a perspective from a conservative student. One that is worth reading.

If George wants to present links from Ph.D professors on the state of affairs at today’s universities, why did he lie with a link to an obscure professor, instead of providing a link to professors such as Dr. Thomas Sowell commenting on the meltdown of the Ivy League universities they attended and teach at? Particularly observations that came to the conclusion eight years ago that Jonathan Turley is finally admitting today i.e.
      https://www.creators.com/read/thomas-sowell/10/16/the-academic-curtain

Further aside from the lie about the author who was then a political science professor then at a small college in Manhattan, there is this concerning that opinion he linked to:

The research and following article that Kluxxer George linked to is from 2006. The published research the author’s article refers to was based on polling conducted by other academics between 1999 and 2004. Well before Bolshevik Barack was injected as a virulent Marxist and Woke poison into the body politic.

For academic elites and Kluxxer George who have as much problem with math as they have with history, that is 20 years ago, long before our Brave New Woke Soviet Democrat World of today.

As a far, far more accomplished academic and social commentator, Dr. Thomas Sowell has said many times, when universities and their tenured professors tell you they practice diversity and inclusion, “ask them what percentage of their peers in the political science and sociology departments are conservatives.”

      1. Airborne dog,

If you paid attention to what he wrote you would have noticed that he was talking about his experiences as a student.

I bet you just gave it a cursory glance and immediately jumped to conclusions. It shows.

  3. Here’s another perspective,

“ They want the rest of us to be less able in our field of study so they can pretend their make believe world is something we all have to engage in. Our campus has a “religious significance in literature” club. We have theology and philosophy classes. Religious literature classes. Presentations on the contribution of Christianity to the law. We are very respectful of Christianity and it’s a cornerstone for MANY cultural classes on campus. Guess what? Not one conservative takes those classes. Not one. I think I know why.

I think conservative students are supposed to be confrontational with proven theories. I think they value arguing and debating far above learning or knowledge or research. I think they are stuck in “I’m being persecuted” mode because they are encouraged to reject the classes that would make them comfortable as well as prove that academic ventures are not anti-conservative or disrespectful to Christianity. Every time I’ve told a conservative that most college professors are Christian, I’ve been screamed at. It’s true. It’s also true that most Americans, both liberal and conservative, are Christian. But if that’s true, then the conservative cannot claim they are being persecuted.”

“ Conservatives consistently pick the wrong arguments. The girl in the evolutionary anthropology class didn’t have a point at all. But if she wanted to appear to have a point, she needed to take the class, pass, and then write a well-thought out letter stating her case for extending the portion of the class dealing with the history of anthropology so it could include Christian disciplines of the past. She could have made her case because the history of anthropology is VERY conservative. The first anthropologists were racist, sexist, cruel, dumb, and with crazy theories that culminated into the practices of the Third Reich. American anthropologists were plagiarized by Herman Goering, Adolf Hitler, and Goebbels. Jim Crow era laws also lie at the feet of conservative anthropology. She could have insisted that we explore this deeper as well as show good conservative anthropologists that came along later.”

“ Conservatives consistently fail to make valid points or pick good arguments. To get to the bottom of that, we need to look at conservatism and not the school. We also need a timely and urgent answer to why conservatives refuse to take the classes proving how much their ideology is respected. It’s hard to think there is a liberal bias on campus when I take a class about what the bible has contributed to literature and I see not one single conservative. If liberals and democrats are seeking to learn more about the world, a religion, and conservatives, why are conservatives so stubbornly classist in their refusal to understand anyone else or learn anything they don’t want to understand?”

It’s obvious this student is paying attention to details. Details that matter and he’s open about learning from the past and uses it to justify a coherent argument.

    https://www.quora.com/Why-are-conservative-views-so-unpopular-among-university-academia

    1. “I think conservative students are supposed to be confrontational with proven theories. I think they value arguing and debating far above learning or knowledge or research. I think they are stuck in “I’m being persecuted” mode”

New George, the comment refers to yourself: slow and stupid.

Conservatives have ideas. I provided you with ten of them. Let’s argue those ideas. You can’t!

        1. SEAL THE BORDER, AND STOP THE MIGRANT INVASION
CARRY OUT THE LARGEST DEPORTATION OPERATION IN AMERICAN HISTORY

Try again slow and stupid George. This is policy, not grievance.

          1. LOL!!!

            S. Meyer, those aren’t ideas. They are grievances.

You have proven twice already that you cannot present any conservative ideas that are not grievances or talking points.

You don’t have any. All you have is insults and incoherent sentences.

            1. Slow and Stupid George learn what ideas and policy are. So far you repeat yourself proving you are slow and stupid. Here are the policies. Try discussing them. You won’t because stupidity is what you live for.

SEAL THE BORDER, AND STOP THE MIGRANT INVASION

      1. S. Meyer,
The question I have is, why is it when conservatives are invited to speak at a college, it is the progressives that use the heckler veto to shout them down and prevent any conservative ideas from being discussed?

  4. This is really sad. Higher education in the United States has been the envy of the world. It has also been the means where a motivated person (no matter their economic status can lift themselves out of predetermined life of drudgery and place themselves on equal footing with those of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. It is an incredible phenomenon!

This can and must be turned around. My university days were relatively free from the bias of professors or from fellow students. It was my ticket out and has served me well. My graduate school dean gave us the “Boom, you’re out of here” speech on our first day. He set the expectations and high standards. He told us that if we had time to get into any kind of trouble then we were not busy enough.

I feel that many of the state universities provide excellent education. The “elite” universities cannot rest on their laurels (nor any program). Their brand equity was earned over the centuries but can be squandered in a single generation.

  5. When one considers the number of individuals sporting doctoral degrees who were participants in the Nazi Wannsee Conference on ‘The Final Solution’, the acquisition of higher education does not guarantee that the holder will possess a moral high ground or be free of moral and ethical turpitude. The direction in which institutions of higher learning appear to be steering our society and culture gives one cause for serious concern.

  6. Our system thrives on having a knowledgeable public, our national competitiveness depends on having academically excellent young people to feed our knowledge creation and support our entrepreneurial system of young companies developing new technology, products and services. Few think about subtle but increasing damage to our system of having lower skills in math, science, reading, history/civics and critical thinking coming out of our largely publicly financed high schools. Those gaps create a longer and more complicated process for even the most dedicated of colleges and individuals at the next level. This is a matter of national security!!!!
Democrats seem comfortable lowering standards to not offend anyone. The long term consequences of this “caring and tolerance” is mediocrity and decline in America.

  7. Time to END Federal Aid to Colleges
Cities, States and Non-profits as well!
    Defund Democrat Fascists!
    Decentralize POWER!

  8. Education has traditionally been recognized as a good thing for society. Rightly so, in principle. But education has become unbalanced when government started to interfere. Normal market mechanisms do no longer work for education. First, the demand side is artificially enhanced twofold: 1) eduction in most countries up to the age of 18 is mandatory, so from Kindergarten thru High school demand is guaranteed, and 2) the demand side is relieved from price influence, because public education is (partly) funded by the state (and many private institution receive federal and/or state funding as well) – I live in NC that has a provision in its Constitution requiring funding for public education including higher education (wouldn’t we all love to start a business that is constitutionally guaranteed income by government?); and demand was artificially increased when governments started to support student loans (which is the main cause of the exorbitant increase in tuition costs as supply remained about the same).
Education should be exposed to a functioning marketplace with the opposite forces of demand and supply.

  9. Well when 3 deans at Columbia get dismissed in 1 day for their antisemitics statements and actions, that is a start. Funding can make a great difference. I note the IVY League seems to be overly successful in grabbing billions in Federal Funds. That needs to stop. The Federal Spigot and the state Support for these Halls of Marxism can be turned around by eliminating forever tenure, requiring persisting re-evaluations of the tenure track or eliminating it entirely and base hiring on production and quality of production. The governing boards of state supported schools have it within themselves to change but they will need legislatures to apply the pressure and turn off the funds if the colleges are not forthcoming in making change.
The whole industry needs pruning shears applied in large swaths.
Professional organizations such as medical groups, legal firms, engineering firms, accounting firms, and on and on don’t get forever tenure. You may get perks for becoming a partner but you still have to produce or you are invited to go elsewhere.
Physician groups have constant grading by partners in ease of getting a consult, quality of consults asked for, personal interactions . There is constant grading by patients in multiple measures of communication, ease of getting appts., on time work in the office, interactions and efficiency of office staff. The overall group monitors infection rates in surgery, complications , costs per doctor regarding lab use, x-ray use , consults and things like that. You’re graded constantly and in some groups it’s all published for all physicians to see. Not all groups do publishing of everyone’s statistics but many do. But if you rank low, it is very unpleasant and you start making amends to straighten it out or you suddenly don’t work there anymore, partner or not.
Colleges and universities should feel the same pressure and pruning.

  10. It will take decades to reverse the damage done to public education. Each year they (dems, left, progressives, marxist) whatever you call them chipped away at traditional education. Safe spaces CRT, DEI, 1619 Project, math is white supremacy, are all designed to bring the nation to ruin.

  11. Here’s a students perspective about why conservative ideas and views are not that popular in college campuses and universities. He makes the case that it’s mostly their own doing.

“ I would like to follow up on this. Conservative students are very good at establishing the plea for the middle ground. And when we all get to it (like agreeing Bernie is off his kilter regarding immigration stolen jobs instead of automation stealing jobs) the conservative students reject it and get more extreme. They tend to think agreement in one thing and trying to discuss a solution is submission to them, our dumbest students. They act accordingly and we leave despising their behaviors.

Next, I’ve seen a Christian conservative student burst into tears and claim she was “worse off than the Jews” because the professor displayed a slide about heredity which showed how recessive traits flourished in specific conditions as far back as africanus afarensis. She threw a complete fit. He told her we could discuss intelligent design in the discussion portion of the week, but at the moment, we were dealing with things found on the test. She claimed…I kid you not…”so if I fail the test I will be persecuted but I have no choice but to reject God to get a good score?!” While wailing. We were all completely baffled. What was she thinking? Was she trying to get out of the test? Ensure an A without doing the work? Appeal for more history based instruction that included 2 weeks of the discipline’s history to feature a full day of religious theories in the past? What? She was throwing a huge fit in a college classroom and we couldn’t help but be disgusted and dismissive. She tried to turn an instruction day into a debate day which was coming on Friday. She tried to say that refusing to teach intelligent design was the only reason there was no “proof of God.” Why was she in an evolutionary anthropology class?! Why hadn’t she read the syllabus? We reviewed that the first week of class and we would have a 2 minute review of what was coming up that week. But she obviously hadn’t read it and wasn’t paying attention because she didn’t use discussion days, she just tried to harm and persecute the rest of us and bomb our grades with her ceaseless antics. She dropped the class to the great relief of us all.”

It’s often conservatives making it worse for themselves. Turley ignores this because he wants to play the victim. Students are smarter than that, but Turley doesn’t give them credit because it would undermine his argument entirely.

    1. LOL. The proof is in your pudding. the kids your system pushes out today are a train wreck, not the data point you have above, but most all of them. That is a new thing in the past couple decades – the data point you have is not (please – got a data point liberal whackjob to offer? Never seen one…). Your liberal student’s perspective is fine, but please give us a conservative one’s perspective on any number of anxiety-drug-addled leftist blue-haired whackjobs pouring out of pseudo-science departments across the country…

You put out largely garbage – ask any employer – because you get garbage from the high schools and then you pander to it under your guidance. This has nothing really to do with lib/con either, it has to do with the education system failure.

      1. Your ignorance betrays you. The conservative perspective comes from a perception of persecution because their ideas are not being accepted. Make a case for conservative ideas. Turley and others choose to cry foul and claim some sort of perceived persecution or victimhood. Instead of offering a robust justification of conservative ideas they offer grievances and a victimhood mentality. What new ideas have conservatives offered to students besides rehashed grievances about cultural objections and grievances?

You complaint about “garbage”, but you don’t offer any substantive alternative. All you have is griping and insults. Students see that. If you want to have students seriously consider conservative ideas and views you’re going to have to offer a lot more than griping about being persecuted and insults. Stop complaining and offer something students will find interest in.

What new ideas or views conservatives offer to students? Things beyond cultural objections and political grievances.

        Do you have any?

          1. No, it has to relevant. New ideas are often more interesting than old worn out ideas. Alchemy was once a new idea, an interesting idea. Until it was superseded by a better newer idea that was more practical and useful. Conservatives are arguing the equivalent of saying alchemy should be considered equally relevant to chemistry. Obviously students are not going to agree except those demanding alchemy be given the same attention as modern chemistry. That in itself would be roundly ridiculed by students.

        1. “What new ideas or views conservatives offer to students?”

There is not a single “progressive” idea or argument that is new.

Its intellectual roots are, for example: Plato, Rousseau, Kant, Marx.

If you had been properly educated, you would know that.

          1. “ There is not a single “progressive” idea or argument that is new.”

That’s not true. There are plenty of ideas that are new. The green new deal was one. CRT is new. Nobody knew about CRT before conservatives started complaining about it. It offers a new perspective about our history and how law is has been applied.

Plato, Kant, and Marx offered philosophical views that can be applied to other things.

            1. GND and CRT – lol. CO2 and whitey are to blame for everything and taking his money and giving it to others is the solution to both …lol… Those are the lamest, most easily refutable religions to have sprung-up in the past decade or so. Also, they are simply derivatives of marxism, so, they are not new.

            2. “The green new deal was one. CRT is new.”

Both are remakes, but you wouldn’t know it, slow and stupid George.

            3. “The green new deal was one. CRT is new.”

That you believe those ideas are new betrays your ignorance of the history of ideas.

The first is from Malthus, and pre-history — with spirits inhabiting physical objects.

The second is a fusion of collectivism and racism, which come proximately from the very same German thinkers who gave rise to Nazism.

When you re-brand an old product, it’s not a new product. It’s an old product with a new name.

            4. Always ignorant Kluxxer George, always eager to provide a self-own with his abject ignorance:
That’s not true. There are plenty of ideas that are new. The green new deal was one. CRT is new.

Hebert Marcuse imported Marxist Critical Theory into America after he and his fellow communists fled Europe during WWII. Kluxxer George didn’t know that? I’m shocked!

              https://www.newsweek.com/critical-race-theory-repackaged-marxism-opinion-1599557

The black racists and Marxists that are the theologians for Black Liars & Marxists, The New Black Panthers simply removed workers as the victim class in Marcuse’s Marxist Critical Theory and substituted “people of color” instead. A simply edit using the ‘find and replace’ function in a word processing program like Word.

But Kluxxer George – the academic Kluxxer George – wants to assure normal Americans that Marxist Critical Theory is new.

Oh, and the Marxist Green New Deal to redistribute wealth to identity politics classes is equally new – not straight out of the Communist Manifesto.

The Soviet Democrats current leading theologians Bernie The Commie Sanders and Another Odd Communist couldn’t have possibly lifted their Marxist Green New Deal straight out of Marx.

        2. Please list the examples of conservative ideas (not religious fundamentalist) that are not being accepted and why.

          1. The problem is MOST conservative ideas ARE based on religious fundamentalist views. It’s the basis for conservative values. You’re asking to exempt the majority of their ideas and views which is exactly what they are and why they are not generally accepted by students.

Others are purely economic. Like trickle down economics or low taxation. Conservatives in Britain lost a considerable majority of their power because their old ideas about economics failed and the public got tired of being lied to and not seeing results. Austerity and Brexit were major disasters.

              1. George demonstrates he has no idea what conservatism is.

Kluxxer George’s idea of an acceptable religious tract is The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf.

            1. Nature is the basis for most conservative views, which is why the non-fittest hate them.

            2. The fact that a bunch of sponges prefer being handed things that are not theirs is not an indication of whether its a good idea or not, just ask any democrat run city in the US

            3. Constitutionally racist Kluxxer George gave this insight into his Soviet Democrat Marxist Useful Idiot atheist religious beliefs:
The problem is MOST conservative ideas ARE based on religious fundamentalist views.

              First Amendment?
              Second Amendment?
              etc?

The Bill of Rights is a list of religious fundamentalist views? Sounds like the only religious texts in Kluxxer George’s world is The Marxist Manifesto and Mein Kampf.

George’s problem is that most conservative values DO NOT comply with his Soviet Democrat police state fascist views. Stalin (and Lenin before him), Hitler, etc were all just as racist and totalitarian as George. And equally acolytes of the Rock Dwarves Religion of Atheism – where one millisecond there was nothing but elements and compounds – and the next millisecond there was DNA and LIFE! The Rock Dwarves were the actual creators…

              1. Old Dog, the US constitution and its amendments form a liberal document, breaking away from the conservatism of a king as head of state.

                1. David B. Benson wrote:
the US constitution and its amendments form a liberal document, breaking away from the conservatism of a king as head of state.

That’s nice: now back on topic and your comment: tell us how the racism, DEI (but, like Mark Twain, I repeat myself), censorship, bias and bigotry of of these “liberal” academic institutions and their “liberal” tenured professors comply with the philosophy of the US Constitution and the philosophers they derived the constitutional principles from.

Give us your best guess at how many people here in this comments section aren’t aware that the liberalism of that time has no relationship whatsoever with the modern, intolerant, police state fascist liberalism of Soviet Democrat government and intolerance that works hand in glove with their fellow Marxists in these institutions.

Tell us how the Soviet Democrats running the country under Obama and now under Obama’s Third Term bear a resemblance to the philosophers like Locke who shaped the thinking of the Founders.

Communist, Marxist, socialist, liberal, “progressive”… keep changing your preferred label as Americans go sour on each in turn. It’s the same stinking totalitarian collectivist tyranny underneath the label.

                2. The Constitution was written by a bunch of men who were educated, mostly of some degree of religious background, and land owners who rebelled against a king.
                  They were conservatives.
Progressives on the other hand believe in socialism, censorship, totalitarian rule to impose their will on all others. They display it and say it on a regular basis. That is why they hate the Constitution so much. It is in their way to their one party rule.

                  1. “ They were conservatives.
Progressives on the other hand believe in socialism, censorship, totalitarian rule to impose their will on all others. They display it and say it on a regular basis. That is why they hate the Constitution so much. It is in their way to their one party rule.”

Oh, you mean like the conservatives in Oklahoma and Louisiana imposing their religious views by mandate. Apparently they seem to hate the constitution too.

            4. Constitutionally racist Kluxxer George attempted this insinuation:
Conservatives in Britain lost a considerable majority of their power because their old ideas about economics failed

Had zero to do with economics Kluxxer George – the Communist Manifesto is the oldest idea on economics still rampant today… and with a 100% failure record.

George don’t want to mention – or equally is just too ignorant to know – that his fellow radical Marxists in the UK Labour party took control of the government with a massive 33.9% of the public vote. Yep… a whopping 33.9%. About the same, BTW, as the percentage of Americans who believe that Bribery Biden and the Soviet Democrats are doing a good job running America.

In comparison to Labour, conservatives took 39.9% of the vote. What made the difference is that vote was split between the new Reform Party and the Tories.

For those old enough to remember, the same kind of conservative split that enabled Blow Job Clinton to get elected here in America.

Just as vote splitting in Canada to our north has seen their Prime Minister Racist Black Face heading a police state fascist minority government for most of his ten years in office – the conservative popular vote is much higher than that of the Lenin Liberals headed by Prime Minister Racist Black Face (George must love that guy as a fellow Marxist). Sometimes vote splitting can get you power… and sometimes it takes activist Soviet Democrat judges legislating from SCOTUS benches.

And so… Kluxxer George wants normal Americans to believe that by winning 33.9% of the vote and in power thanks to vote splitting, apparently his fellow communists in the Labour party have a ringing endorsement from the Brits.

There is much more than that of course – I don’t want to appear as sophomorically simplistic as Kluxxer George. But among the many reasons is that the Tories were weak and refused to deal with the massive amounts of illegal aliens flooding into the UK to be added to the welfare leech class when Labour’s propaganda arm in the Mainstream Media Marxists called them racist for attempts to stop illegal aliens pouring into their country. The UK is fed up with having millions of illegal aliens forced on them and bills for their care and entitlements added to the taxes they pay – much like what is going on in America today with our 20 million new Guest Soviet Democrat Voters aka Illegal Aliens.

The most likely result is the UK is going to get a far worse version of what America has gotten under Bribery Biden.

Will Kluxxer George then pop up to offer excuses as to why Marxism has failed yet again?

How about when Canada finally gets tired of Prime Minister Racist Black Face and his Lenin Liberals, and throws their commie asses out on their ear next year, in what is now projected to be the worst electoral defeat in Canada’s history. Will Kluxxer George show up to say “Leninist Liberals in Canada lost a considerable majority of their power because their old Communist Manifesto ideas about economics failed”?

              No, of course he won’t.

    2. Yea, lets ask the idiot teenager how he/she thinks higher education should work,

      LMAO

George likes to get his opinions from people that are smarter than him.

  12. These polls show that though conservatives are tolerant of progressives, progressives are not tolerant of anyone else. Progressives are authoritarian and intolerant. It is the ideology, not anything else.

Give a progressive an inch, and they will take two. Note they refuse to require IDs to vote. IDs prevent them from cheating.

    1. S. Meyer,
Progressives have an unearned sense of superiority, leading to their arrogance.
The good news is, all us normal people see through them, easy enough, and when we call out their progressive ideas and how bad they are, they throw a temper tantrum.
That is why they have to have the heckler veto. Their ideas cannot stand up to scrutiny or debate.

    2. “ These polls show that though conservatives are tolerant of progressives, progressives are not tolerant of anyone else. ”

No, the polls show conservatives are intolerant of progressives because progressives are not accepting conservative ideas or views. They are the ones complaining of indoctrination and persecution. Progressives are more worried about the cost of education. Not conservatives.

Your poor attempt at projection is quite obvious.

      1. “No, the polls show conservatives are intolerant of progressives because progressives are not accepting conservative ideas or views.”

New George, It is the conservative faculty who are disappearing, not progressives.

You keep proving yourself slow and Stupid

        1. S. Meyer,
Also being fiscally responsible is a conservative idea. We do things like work two jobs to pay the bills and contribute to our children’s 529 plans.
Progressives just take out loans, get useless degrees, complain they cannot get a job that pays them six figures after graduation, then demand for student loan forgiveness, making the rest of us who did not go to college or those who paid off their college debt pay for theirs.

          1. “ Also being fiscally responsible is a conservative idea. We do things like work two jobs to pay the bills and contribute to our children’s 529 plans.
Progressives just take out loans, get useless degrees, complain they cannot get a job that pays them six figures after graduation, then demand for student loan forgiveness, making the rest of us who did not go to college or those who paid off their college debt pay for theirs.”

Being fiscally responsible is not just a conservative idea. Just because you’re not a conservative does not mean all others are not fiscally responsible. There are fiscally irresponsible conservatives too, they also take out loans like everyone else. Conservatives even claim taking out loans is a better financial tool than just paying outright for certain things. It’s sometime more beneficial and makes financial sense.

          2. Upstate, I agree with you. Do you note how slow and stupid George won’t deal with a comparison of conservative and progressive ideas? I presented ten conservative ones that will be in the RNC platform. Not a peep from slow and stupid George.

            1. A. Meyer, you didn’t post conservative ideas. You posted grievances. Learn the difference but that would be too much to ask.

            2. S. Meyer,
He is slow and stupid. Cannot tell the difference between the planks in the RNC platform and grievances. He is not very bright.

              1. Thats what Svelaz George does when he is cornered. He reddfines things according to his “reality”

      2. What is the result of that intolerance you think you see? Fewer left-wing whackjobs?

        Moron.

  13. It’s more than past time for Congress to begin cutting funding for any public institution that professes balance and inclusion, but practises intolerance and one sided hiring.

  14. “ A majority of Republicans who lack confidence in higher education, 53%, mention political agendas. Democrats who are not confident in higher education primarily cite the cost of it, while independents divide about equally between cost, political agendas and misplaced teaching focus.”

Of course, the lack of confidence is coming from Republicans. The one group being TOLD what to believe because they are the most gullible bunch.

“ We previously discussed how surveys at universities show a virtual purging of conservative and Republican faculty members.”

What a laugh. Republicans or conservatives aren’t being purged. It has nothing to do with just being Republican or conservative. Students aren’t really that interested in conservative ideas and views. A majority just aren’t. Conservative ideas and views are already well known and that’s one reason most students are not attracted to those ideas. Because they are old, outdated, and don’t really offer anything new to explore or consider. Their ideas are just not that popular.

The idea that conservative views or ideas should be given greater deference just to have a “fairer” balance ignores the free market being at work. Conservatives are NOT offering anything interesting enough to students to warrant a greater presence on campuses. It’s not a purge, it’s a lack of interest. Turley is using victimhood as an accuse for the fact that most students are simply not that interested in conservative ideas and views.

    1. George,
How do students know whether they are interested in conservative/libertarian ideas, if they have never been exposed to any of these but instead have been exposed exclusively to social-democrat and marxist view points? It is difficult to be interested in ideas the existence of which is unknown to you, or have been portrayed by teachers since Kindergarten as without value or outdated.

      1. DoubleDutch,

They HAVE been exposed to them. They exposed to them everyday. They see it first hand outside of campus, in interactions with family members, social media, etc.

Universities and colleges DO offer conservative ideas and views. What Turley doesn’t talk about is the fact that most students are simply not that interested in them because conservatives are the ones who turn them off from their ideas.

Can you think if anything substantially new conservatives have offered to students that does not involve a grievance or opposition to something?

        1. Everything is new to a high school punk.

Get a grip. Half of those kids grow up in liberal homes douchebag.

Even in vague topics like this, you’ll eventually say something stupid.

          1. “ Everything is new to a high school punk.”

Not really. With social media and the vast access to information and news they already experience conservative and liberal ideas long before they get college. Some may come from conservative families who no longer accept their views. Others see conservative ideas play out in real life and not agree with them.

Conservative families can churn out liberal leaning kids. Because conservative ideas is all they may have known. In college they get exposed to ideas they would have never considered or learned from their families. It expands their horizons and broadens their views.

In religious circles that was once considered blasphemy.

            1. So what you just said with that word salad is that your earlier statement was horse manure.

Thanks for concurring. You could have just said, “I agree”.

              1. No, what you’re saying is you don’t have anything of value to add to the discussion. You have no rebuttal.

            2. “Not really. ”

“In college they get exposed to ideas they would have never considered or learned from their families.”

Nothing like contradicting yourself in the same post.

You and Dennis are good at that.

              1. Of course when you put things out of context it’s always “contradictory” in your mind.

    2. New George is precisely the type of person educated by the leftist elites: slow and stupid.

“What a laugh. Republicans or conservatives aren’t being purged. It has nothing to do with just being Republican or conservative. Students aren’t really that interested in conservative ideas and views.”

The universities are purging faculty, not students. As I said, slow and stupid.

      1. S. Meyer,
        Well said.
As we have seen, some universities refuse to hire conservatives by using DEI as a requirement for hire. Just like they discriminate against white males, Asians.
We have also seen enrollment in more progressive colleges and universities falling as people who are not interested in forced indoctrination of DEI, gender whatever. My daughter was forced to take and pay for a DEI to graduate.

      2. S. Meyer, they are not purging faculty. Students are just not interested in conservative ideas enough to justify hiring conservative faculty. If there’s no interest there’s no incentive to hire or have staff that is not in demand. It comes down to basic economics.

        1. Engineering students want fresh new ideas about mathematics and physics
          —-Spastic George

          1. Engineering and mathematics are always coming up with new ideas and methods.
What new conservative ideas have emerged in the past 10 years? Anything exciting, interesting?

            1. I didn’t say a word about engineering dipweed.

Lets here this fresh new math. “Math is racist” doesn’t count.

              1. Engineering students are engaged in engineering. You inferred that there are no new fresh ideas in the field.

You’re the one having context issues.

        2. Students are interested in remedial courses – over 25% of all US 4-year college courses are at the remedial level. No wonder “progressive” students are concerned about the costs – how are they ever gonna find productive work after 4-years of dumbed down nonsense designed to meet diversity goals and the demands of those people?

        3. ” Students are just not interested in conservative ideas “

Slow and stupid George many students are adverse to studying difficult topics. That is why basketweaving is a good choice for progressives and physics a good one for conservative.

          Did you flunk basketweaving?

          1. S. Meyer,

            Conservative: 2 + 2 = 4

Progressive: That is not new. I am not interested in it. And math is racist.

Conservative: Newton’s law of universal gravitation says that every particle attracts every other particle in the universe with a force that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers. Separated objects attract and are attracted as if all their mass were concentrated at their centers.

Progressive: That is not new. I am not interested in it. Besides Newton was racist, and it is Gia who keeps us from flying out into space. We should honor her decision by eating only tofu.

Conservative: Van Allen radiation belt is a zone of energetic charged particles, most of which originate from the solar wind, that are captured by and held around a planet by that planet’s magnetosphere. Earth has two such belts, and sometimes others may be temporarily created. The belts are named after James Van Allen, who is often credited with their discovery.

Progressive: That is not new. I am not interested in it. Besides Van Allen was racist, and it is Gia who made the belt, protecting us from bad things in space. We should honor her decision by only driving EVs.

            1. “ Conservative: 2 + 2 = 4

Progressive: That is not new. I am not interested in it. And math is racist.”

              Conservative: 2+2=4

That’s all you need to know.

Progressive: there’s more to just addition and subtraction. There’s algebra, calculus, geometry, theoretical mathematics, much more.

They want to learn beyond 2+2=4. Conservatives believe all you need to know is within the simplicity of 2+2=4. Expanding beyond that is a waste of time and woke.

              1. Very good slow and stupid.
Conservatives first learn and accept that 2 + 2 = 4. That is the basic building blocks of mathematics. Then they go on to things like algebra, calculus, geometry etc.
Progressives on the other hand, think 2 + 2 = 5. They think math is racist.

          2. S. Meyer,

“… many students are adverse to studying difficult topics.”

Conservatives are adverse to studying difficult topics. Because they may challenge their preconceptions and notions of what they think is settled truth or perspective. That’s why you don’t go beyond anything that would upend your worldview. It’s too much for you to handle. It’s more comfortable staying where you’re at education-wise.

            1. “Conservatives are adverse to studying difficult topics. “

You are packed with meaningless rhetoric. That is why you are known as slow and stupid George.

Deal with the ideas presented to you. You can’t, but you do provide entertainment as the blog’s fool.

              1. S. Meyer,
Every notice how many conservatives go into STEM majors? But slow and stupid thinks conservatives are adverse to studying difficult topics.
Who would want to study CRT or DEI or any gender whatever.

              2. “ Deal with the ideas presented to you.”

That’s the problem Meyer. You haven’t offered any. You think you have, but those are not ideas. All you have of offered are common complaints about policies.

                1. Policy: Stop illegal immigration
Idea: Why don’t we stop illegal immigration?
Slow and Stupid George: Ignorant and arrogant. A loser any way one looks at it.

                  1. S. Meyer,

                    “ Policy: Stop illegal immigration
Idea: Why don’t we stop illegal immigration?”

                    That’s not an idea. That’s a question.

They already tried walls, didn’t work. Separating children from their parents, didn’t work. Put up razor wire, didn’t work. Deploy the National guard, didn’t work.

How bout actually reforming the system instead? We all know the immigration system is broken.

        4. How many of the progressive and leftist students thoroughly read Das Capital? Almost none. Even many of those progressives who write about Marxism never read the book. How many of the conservatives on this blog have read Hayek, Friedman, Hazlit and many others? A good number have done so. What have you read in-depth? How do you entertain yourself without having to think? That is you slow and stupid, George. Not a brain in your head.

          1. “ How many of the progressive and leftist students thoroughly read Das Capital? Almost none. Even many of those progressives who write about Marxism never read the book. ”

Meyer, you can barely put together a cogent sentence. You can’t grasp complex issues much less read past the first page of a book on Marxism because you give up too soon.

You haven’t offered anything of substance about the subjects you allege you know what you’re talking about. Instead all you’ve can muster is insults and put downs. Because it’s much easier than having to make sense

            1. Slow and stupid George, if you wish to discuss Marxism and the book Das Capital, we can do that, but you won’t. You are too slow and stupid to deal with anything that involves fact and more than superficial thought. If Upstate Farmer put you in his pigpen, the pigs would walk away saying you are too stupid to be around.

    3. You wrote five paragraphs to say what could have been said in one sentence: ‘It’s my opinion that conservative ideas are not popular.’ Persuasiveness is not correlated with verbosity and superfluousness.

You provide no evidence. No data. Not even an anecdote to support your excessively wordy opinion.

Here’s an anecdote supporting the exact opposite of your unfounded opinion. Several years ago Stanford offered an elective seminar course titled, “The Moral Foundations of Capitalism”. It was wildly popular. The course reached capacity shortly after enrollment registration opened. After three years in which demand for the course was so strong that students who wanted to enroll were turned away, Stanford administrators chose to cancel the course. It was replaced with something called, “Ethical Reasoning”. The administrators kept a course with a title questioning the morality of the free enterprise system titled, “Moral Limits of the Market”.

      https://medium.com/stanfordreview/exploring-the-moral-foundations-of-capitalism-at-stanford-cbb435f59220

Here is the blog of the professor who taught the course and ALL of the reviews. Very positive.
      https://www.johnmccaskey.com/foundations-of-capitalism/

Thank you for making it easy more me to ignore your future comments. I don’t read Natacha/Gigi’s garbage nor Dennis’s. At best it is left wing groupthink. At worst, it is intentionally dishonest. I can get that just about anywhere in the MSM. I don’t need to read it here.

      1. “ Persuasiveness is not correlated with verbosity and superfluousness.”

John say is very fond of the approach you’re critical of. Perhaps you should mention it to him when you get the chance.

          1. LOL! no he’s not. He rambles on and on almost Trump-like from one grievance to the next.

  15. Ukraine should launch Neptune missiles at the Kremlin, out of revenge for the children’s hospital. The Pentagon should draft a plan to capture Putin, as was done to Noriega, Saddam Hussein, and Qaddafi. The means to capture him exist.

    1. Why would they do that? They should threaten the US with the idea of bombing the Kremlin and then make us give them more money not to. That is the gameplan, get with it.

  16. Turley is frustrated his efforts at force feeding his unpopular message of conservatism to academia is being rebuffed. If the conservative message wasn’t so polluted and mediocre it would actually pull a larger audience and translate into more conservative profs. But conservative representation flounders because their message sucks.

    1. Exactly!

The majority of students just don’t buy into conservative views. There’s little interest in it and that’s not saying conservatives are being purged. Turley is bothered by the fact that most students have seen and experienced what conservative ideas and views are mostly grievances about cultural issues that most students don’t have issues with. But, conservatives keep insisting everyone should have an issue with THEIR grievances or perceived slights. Those who don’t are deemed “leftists, Marxists, communists, idiots, indoctrinated” etc, etc, etc.

Those views and attitudes are extremely off putting and antithetical to what most students want. They want to explore new ideas, views, and perspectives. Conservatives simply don’t offer that and that’s the problem.

      1. “conservative ideas and views are mostly grievances “

The first half of the RNC platform is above.

Slow and stupid New George believes the US should have no borders. New George supports rape, murder, cartels, slavery and other unsavory things. That is part of his progressive ideology. New George doesn’t care about American families suffering from inflation. He also wants gas prices to be high when we can produce more energy and, while doing so, lessen the use of dirty coal. He wants our industry outsourced, depriving the American people of good jobs. We are heading for WW3, and all New George can say is ‘huh?’

As I said, New George is slow and ignorant.

        1. Totally ham handed attempt to put words in George’s mouth, Allan. Obvious question for you is why can’t you do better? Unfortunately, the answer to that is because you can’t.

So laughable when so called conservatives can’t realize their own hypocrisy around free market principles. And yeah, that would be you, Allan.

        2. A. Meyer, you just made my point in the best way possible. All you did was list grievances followed by claims that aren’t factual. You don’t know what I want. But you seem to have mind reading capabilities.

          1. Slow and stupid George, do you know what policy is? Apparently not. Those are some conservative policies that will be part of the RNC platform. You don’t like such policies. Why? I’ll answer the question.

You believe the US should have no borders. You support rape, murder, cartels, slavery and other unsavory things. That is part of your progressive ideology. You don’t care about American families suffering from inflation. You also want gas prices to be high when we can produce more energy and, while doing so, lessen the use of dirty coal. You want our industry outsourced, depriving the American people of good jobs. We are heading for WW3, and all you can say is, ‘huh?’

As I said, New George is slow and ignorant.

            1. S. Meyer, there you go again. Mind reading.

You don’t know what I support. You didn’t post policies or ideas. You posted grievances, complaints.

Clearly your ignorance is getting the best of you.

              1. Those are half the policies prepared to go to the RNC. That you don’t know what a policy is astounding. As I have repeatedly said, you are slow and stupid.

Try to discuss the things on the table. Stop playing the part of the fool.

      2. They want ‘new’ stuff because they are too f’ing stupid and unprepared to deal with reality. Your financial aid and diversity departments are there to cater to the morons. Because there are so many morons in the system, there is a watered down professorial pool there to push them through college with winks and nods. The evidence in the Ivies should make you tremble when you consider what must be happening at NW State Football School.

        1. “ They want ‘new’ stuff because they are too f’ing stupid and unprepared to deal with reality”

No, because they want to go beyond their own preconceived notions. That’s how innovation flourishes. Inspiration can come from learning from these new ideas. They choose to go past mediocrity and ‘old fashioned’.

          1. 1. They do not know what came before them
            2. They do not know whether what is in front of them currently is true or not, because they do not know 1.
            3. They think that what emotions are derived from whatever the experience is truth.
            4. Most do go past mediocrity, but in. the wrong direction, and many were never even mediocre to begin with, but less.

      3. That’s funny, because the non-conservatives seem to come out of college trying to solve the same problems the non-conservatives before them have been trying to solve with the same solutions that do not work.

Please enlighten us into these “new” ideas, views, and perspectives that non-conservatives are studying to solve the world’s problems.

    2. What is hilarious is that you idiots think this political viewpoint shit even belongs in academia. Give them an education, not an indoctrination into ANY ideology.

  17. The return on investment is no longer worth the investment.
And paying for forced indoctrination, why would anyone do that?
Then there are all the worthless degrees, like activism, DEI studies, gender whatever. Now that most companies see and know having a DEI program is not worth the money, all those DEI grads are continuing their careers as baristas. A job they are well suited for.

    1. Liked, but I’d take issue with the notion that degree holders in such things as DEI studies, grievance studies, activism studies, etc., are NOT well-suited to any public-facing job (i.e., requiring courtesy toward actual human beings).

      1. Ellen Evans,
That is a good point. They are a pretty rude and ugly bunch. Saw it at a Starbucks a few months ago at a rest stop. It was funny as next door was a Chick-Fil-A and they were a happy bunch of people. I opted to get my coffee from them. The nice young lady who gave me my order, warned me the fries had just come out of the fryer and to be careful. I thanked her and gave her a smile. She smiled back.

  18. The whole concept of higher education as it exists now, in the present, amounts to it being a con, and the basis for a phony, gatekept system of credentialism. It’s completely unnecessary for most occupations, and should be largely replaced with on the job training and apprentice or apprenticeship like programs. As it exists now, it’s mostly a sophistocated, grand scale money grab for a piece of paper, and the piece of paper has far less value than the money people end up forking over to get it. And the money grab has become so large, so normalized by society, it’s really better to describe it as a system of money dropping, that exists now on a grand scale. So large and so embedded, the idea of largely replacing it is usually dismissed out of hand in terms of government policy and/or private industry norms.
