We are very honoured to be part of the exhibition “ITALIA GENIALE. Design Enables - Bellezza, originalità, creatività del design industriale apprezzato universalmente” which opened on 3 July at the Villaggio Italia in Los Angeles. The exhibition, set up by the Ministero delle Imprese e del Made in Italy and the Ministero della Difesa in collaboration with ADI Design Museum, will accompany the Amerigo Vespucci ship for the entire duration of its world tour and will also be shown in Tokyo, Darwin, Singapore, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Jeddah and Durres. "Italia Geniale" is a synthesis of Italian talent, creativity and technology and is an expression of Made in Italy, a value that continuously strives for excellence by combining innovation and tradition. Curated by Carlo Martino and Francesco Zurlo, with visual identity and layout by studio SM5, the exhibition develops from the valorisation of our country's heritage of brands and patents, touching on material culture and technical culture, to interweave with the history of design. Among the selection of design products from Italian brands of excellence are three Magis products: the Bombo stool, the Magis Proust armchair and the Puppy abstract dog. #magisnovelties / How is the Costume modular sofa system evolving? “With this new version of Costume we achieved two things: we increased the depth of the sofa to make it suitable much more for the domestic market and we made it open to lots more of fabrics…and third thing, it's now suitable for outside so we can use it in the garden. These features make Costume Lounge a very versatile, easy to handle product. Costume is a sort of toolbox that is useful for a long period, for ever changing living and working environments. […] Sustainability means that we rather take care, that we are allowing the material to remain in the loop, which is a process which will keep us busy for sure for the next years, but what Costume can contribute to this is that each part of the sofa can be replaced by the end consumer – you do not have to bring it for repair if something, for instance, is wearing out. This fulfills one of the first attempts of a circular product to just to maintain it for a long time intact. The second thing is, but even at the end of the life,  you can separate all the materials in a very easy way.” Stefan Diez #magis #costumelounge #costumemodularsofasystem #stefandiez

#magisnovelties / Costume Lounge, modularity and comfort Tied to its innovative and now well-established design approach, the new version of the Costume sofa, Costume Lounge, maintains the concept of a tailored modular approach but increases its comfort, resulting in an even more cosy and casual mood. The concept is well established: a sofa system that can be completely disassembled, with reduced polyurethane volume and a cover that can be washed and replaced. Few elements and a structure that allows each individual component to be replaced if necessary. With only two elements, the Costume Lounge system allows you to create endless compositions. Changing house? Rearrange the modules to suit the new space – it has never been easier! #magis #costumelounge #costumemodularsofasystem #stefandiez

#magisnovelties / With the new Costume Lounge, the Costume family expands! Costume is the result of many years of work and research and should not be considered a closed project but in continuous evolution. All our projects are never considered completely finished, we rather see them as an open building site that can always be improved and extended. It is following this principle that we have expanded the collection this year, creating Costume Lounge, a new version of the sofa that offers even more comfort and seating space to create a true oasis of relaxation and is also available for outdoor use. Costume Lounge uses the ottoman of the previous version combined with a new back module that can also be used as an armrest and which, completed by large cushions, makes the sofa cosier. The internal structure of the new module is the same as the others, a thin hollow recycled polyethylene core, derived from industrial waste and rotationally moulded, completed, in this case, by a polyurethane foam padding, held fixed to the structure by the cover. Take a look inside! #magis #costumelounge  #costumelounge #costumemodularsofasystem #stefandiez

#magisicons / Costume, an alphabet to write new stories The elements, combined to create the Costume sofa, are only four: the seat module, the left and right armrests and the ottoman. “The systems are like an alphabet. I am not interested in providing ready-made answers but bricks, letters with which you can formulate words, sentences and stories. Systems are not static but can always be reinterpreted. The individual building units can be further developed and improved separately. I see an interesting logic behind this, which fully exploits the potential of industrial production and industrial design”. Stefan Diez says. The uniqueness of this sofa lies not only in the construction choice of the individual elements but also in the way they are assembled using special connectors that are also a playful aesthetic detail. These connectors, available in 3 colours (orange, black and blue) when inserted into the special slots on the sides of the seat, ottoman and armrests, allow for an infinite number of configurations to meet any need. In a few simple steps, Costume can change not only its shape but also its dress, thanks to the intuitive cover available in a wide choice of washable fabrics. #magis #costumemodularsofasystem #stefandiez

#magisicons / Costume, the making of “Designers today have an enormous influence on how products are planned, where, with what and how they are manufactured”. Stefan Diez says. Costume is the result of many years of research in which, together with Stefan Diez, we experimented with new materials and construction methods that led to a complete rethinking of the sofa's compositional structure. At the heart of Costume is a 4 mm thin body made from recycled and recyclable polyethylene, produced using rotational-moulding technology from furniture and car industry waste. An insert made of pocket spring cores provides the cushioning for the seat and backrest. On top of this is a thin layer of polyurethane foam. The materials are not permanently attached to each other, the whole is held together by a cover made of fabric that can be fastened on using tension belts and easily removed at any time. Not only does this system use much less foam in manufacturing than conventional sofas but most of the materials used can also easily be recycled. This is fully in keeping with the circular economy and allows Costume to live up to Magis’ claim to develop products that use materials in a responsible way. In fact, all its components can be easily disassembled as no glues are used. Its infinite modularity and flexibility in changing the coverings guarantee its longevity, offering a timeless and future-oriented product. Costume is entirely in the spirit of a circular economy and our collective engagement for responsible design. #magis  #costumemodularsofasystem #stefandiez

#magisicons / Costume, a new take on the sofa “What if we completely rethought the sofa?” This is what we asked the designer, Stefan Diez, before starting to develop the Costume sofa. Modular, versatile, avant-garde and with an industrial soul, Costume is inspired by a casual lifestyle that embraces change and looks to the future and sustainability. This modular sofa system is the expression of our continuous research into new materials and construction technologies, and of our ongoing commitment to the environment. In contrast to classic sofas, which use a wooden frame, glue, a lot of foam and are difficult to repair and disassemble, Costume has a thin body of recycled polyethylene derived from industrial waste, rotational moulded. The upholstered back and seat have a pocketed spring insert over which a thin layer of polyurethane foam is grafted. All the elements are not glued but are held together by a cover, a fabric covering that is fixed to the bottom of the module by a system of elastic bands. Thanks to this construction system, less material and foam are used, and all elements can be separated, replaced and above all recycled more easily. Costume can be restyled, cleaned and repaired, or even reused without affecting its lifespan. Thanks to Dezeen for the video. #magis  #costumemodularsofasystem #stefandiez

Costume has won the Compasso d'Oro 2024! We are very proud to announce that the Costume sofa, designed by Stefan Diez, has received the prestigious ADI Compasso d'Oro, awarded every two years to Italian design products that have distinguished themselves for quality and value. “An innovative production process applied to a mature market sector has generated new areas of use for the public, who are increasingly responsible and aware in terms of sustainability issues over time”. The motivation for the award speaks clearly and embodies the essence of this modular sofa. Its innovative construction system involves a hollow core of recycled and recyclable polyethylene over which the various layers are arranged and held together by the cover. No glues are used, materials are reduced to a minimum and it can be easily disassembled, thus simplifying the repair, cleaning and recycling processes. Its infinite modularity allows it to be reconfigured at will, making it timeless and adaptable to any situation. The prize conferred to Costume represents the sixth Compasso d'Oro for Magis after those awarded to Trioli in 2008, Steelwood Chair in 2011, Spun in 2014, our founder Eugenio Perazza in 2020 (Lifetime Achievement) and Plato in 2022. #magis #compassodoro #ADIcompassodoro #costume #stefandiez
