A whimsical place where Imagination meets Design.

Chi siamo

"What I did was something more than decoration: it was an invitation to the imagination." Piero Fornasetti Fornasetti is a lens through which to observe the world, offering an eccentric and unconventional perspective. A skilled draftsman as well as an intensely imaginative artist, Piero Fornasetti opened the decorative arts atelier bearing his name in the 1940s, producing furniture and home accessories and spawning a visual universe that now encompasses more than 13,000 designs of decorative objects and artworks. Since 1988, the Fornasetti Atelier has been led by his son Barnaba Fornasetti. Under his artistic direction and guidance, Fornasetti has garnered international renown in the field of luxury design. Because of its eclectic output and unique visual language, which is sophisticated and at the same time ironic, Fornasetti is rightly considered an icon of Italian design. Every Fornasetti item is still constructed and painted by hand, following the tradition established in the 1950s. Each one is a unique and timeless piece of art, created through a masterful balance of madness and the pragmatism of high-quality craftsmanship. All Fornasetti items are made entirely in Milan, where the brand’s flagship store is also located. The Fornasetti Store is a cabinet of curiosities, every room a treasure trove of wonders waiting to be discovered. Fornasetti objects are distributed worldwide via a network of upmarket department stores, concept stores, art and design galleries.

All Fornasetti creations are the result of a long production process, every step of which is carried out strictly by hand in the Atelier. Furniture and accessories are meticulously assembled, decorated with manually applied silkscreen printing and hand painting, and finished with multiple layers of transparent lacquer, resulting in Fornasetti's distinctive, lustrous pieces marked by unique black graphic lines and vibrant colors. Fornasetti's vase collection is expanding with five new creations that perfectly blend timeless elegance and contemporary imagination. Inspired by a 1950s model created by Piero Fornasetti and rediscovered by Barnaba in the cellar of Casa Fornasetti, these vases have now become coveted collector's items. Handmade and produced in limited series of just 999 pieces, these ceramic vases feature imaginative variations on Fornasetti's icon Lina Cavalieri. From the playful fragmentation of her face into shards, to its elegant interpretation as a pansy, to the famous lock and key version, and the surreal face composed of mouths, each design is unique. 'Practical madness' is the Fornasetti term that best summarises the Atelier's unique ability to apply its own artistry to everyday objects, elevating them to pieces of art. This is the magic by which a simple umbrella stand becomes an artistic theme that can enrich minds and spaces. The trompe l'oeil umbrella stands are eclectic intellectual illusions, on which drawing takes physical form and decoration playfully deceives the eye in an interplay of fiction and realism. In the world of design and art, Fornasetti stands out for its unique blend of reality and fantastical motifs. Alongside images drawn from reality, Fornasetti's creations abound with surreal visions, such as vibrant, colorfully plumed birds. These birds, full of life and imagination, soar throughout Fornasetti's oeuvre. They seamlessly integrate with the shapes and surfaces of furniture, transforming everyday objects into extraordinary works of art. #Fornasetti #Uccelli #Décor

Architecture, with its blend of the artistic and the technical, has always fascinated Fornasetti. The chance to inspire awe and wonder through precise design and rigid forms seduced the Milanese artist from a young age. His training as an engraver and printer found new applications in the geometric lines of Renaissance palaces and neoclassical buildings. The Palladiana chest of drawers from 1950 and the Architettura trumeau from 1951 are the first two fruits of a theme that the Atelier is still exploring today. The moment when Piero Fornasetti first noticed a photo of the opera singer Lina Cavalieri on the pages of a magazine marks a pivotal point in the artist's output. Transfixed by that face, he began to draw it and reproduce it in an endless series of guises and variations, in what seems a perfect partnership between muse and artist. Suggestive, mysterious, surprised, seductive, sporting a moustache, glasses, a crown or a balaclava: however it is reinvented, Lina's face remains unmistakable. An icon that has become the symbol of Fornasetti and his poetics. Discover more about the décor at https://lnkd.in/dj7cKZT6 #Fornasetti #TemaeVariazioni #Décor

Fornasetti's creative mind loves to interpret, sublimate and reinvent reality. Drawing inspiration from the mystery of the depths of the abyss, he created a personal illustrated zoology manual, collecting a series of surreal and fantastical drawings that, ever since the 1940s, have portrayed the most bizarre marine creatures. Today, Fornasetti’s marine world is expressed on vases, trays, cushions and porcelain pieces that reflect his ironic spirit. The custom made project of the “Nuvole” Wallpaper by Fornasetti is one of the elements that catches the attention of the refined house of the Italian producer Giacomo Maiolini. His house, defined by the artist himself as an expression of eclecticism, combines the beauty of unique details with an understanding of different styles that can coexist harmoniously in the same space.
