The MI program now offers employers an opportunity to hire a co-op student. MI Co-ops are offered for 4 or 8-month terms.

We have a diverse group of graduate co-op students that are studying Archives and Records Management, Library and Information Science, Culture and Technology, Critical Information Policy Studies,  Data Science, UXD, Information Systems, Information Policy, Knowledge Management. • An opportunity to bring MI students full-time into your organization
• The student is supervised (even if the work is being done remotely) by a full-time employee that is senior in experience to the student
• Work terms are typically 4 or 8 months with full-time hours.  The preference is 16 weeks per 4-month work term, however, the very minimum is 12 weeks and 420 hours for one work term
• Majority of co-ops occur during the Summer (May-Aug) and/or Fall (Sept-Dec) semester
• Winter Co-ops are also an option either as a stand alone 4-month for the winter semester (Jan – Apr) or combined with a Fall Co-op for an 8-month term
• The position must be paid (at least minimum wage)
• The student is hired as an employee (must be on your payroll)
• Students are typically paid between $23-33 per hour
• Recruitment cycle starts 4 months before the start of the co-op term

POST YOUR COOP ROLE TODAY

Contribute to the growth of the information profession by hosting a student placement.
Students pursuing their Master of Information are enrolled in a practicum course:

• Hands-on experience in student’s field of study
• 105 hours of project-based work over 12 weeks
• Can be paid or unpaid
• Practicum project submissions for projects are open in the fall
• All projects are submitted via Symplicity
• The practicum is only offered in the winter semester only (Jan-Apr)

POST YOUR MI Practicum Position 

Our talented Bachelor of Information (BI) students take courses in UX design, data, information practices, and computational reasoning as well as a full semester of class developing professional communication skills. BI students start the program after completing two years of study, meaning they are third-year (senior) students when they are available for a work term.

• The maximum term length is 4 months. Typically, these students work 4 months full-time paid co-op work terms.
• BI students also have the flexibility to take on shorter, project-based work that can be paid or unpaid.
• The minimum hours students can work is 100.
• BI Students are available for Summer (May – Aug) ONLY work terms.
• For full-time positions, students are typically paid between $23-33 per hour
• For project-based work (100 hours) students can be paid or unpaid

POST YOUR BI Practicum Position 

Foster the development of professional competencies in our MMSt students in the summer between their first and second year of study.

During a 12-week internship in a museum, gallery, cultural or heritage organization, or government agency, students participate in your institution’s current activities or long-term plans.

• Internships offered in the summer semester/term (May – Aug)
• Min 280 hours
• can be paid or unpaid, we strongly encourage employers to consider paid positions and apply for funding through Young Canada Works
• Postings are made on Symplicity
