Teach English Online

Volunteer as an online English teacher today!

Intercambio provides an easy-to-use curriculum, practical training, and all the support you need to make it fun and easy to teach English online to adult learners.

When you become a volunteer, you join a community of volunteer teachers you’ll meet at various online events and trainings. Our online program provides schedule flexibility for both teachers and adult English learners.

If you’re 18 years old or older, live in the United States, and have the ability to commit to two 90-minute sessions per week for at least three months, join us as a volunteer teacher.

The best part? You’ll learn just as much from your student as they will learn from you!

Need to fulfill your TESOL or other English teaching practicum hours requirements? We can help!

Frequently Asked Questions

We’re so excited that you’d like to become an online English teacher! The first step is to create an account in our learning system, then watch the orientation and training videos. Once that’s complete, we’ll start working on matching you with a student and you can familiarize yourself with the curriculum and available resources, preparing for your first class,   Finally, meet your student and start teaching! Of course, we’ll be here every step of the way to help answer any questions or concerns you may have.

All of our students complete an initial online placement test that matches them with a corresponding book level in our Confidence and Connections curriculum. Once you have been matched, you will receive your student’s profile information, which will include the book level of our curriculum that they tested into.

We want to make sure all participants are having a good experience. If you are having any problems, please contact us at online@intercambio.org, and we will be happy to help. We can help you work with your student, or we can find a new student for you.

Life happens and things change, we get it. You can end your participation at any time. We kindly ask you to give us as much notice as possible; please contact us at online@intercambio.org. We will notify your student and transition them to another teacher. Thank you for your time and dedication, and please let us know if you’re available to teach again in the future.

One of the purposes of our program is to help adult immigrants to the United States become more comfortable and connected to their new country. Our teachers are a big part of creating these connections and helping students learn about navigating the culture and systems of the United States.
