The 2024 T20 World Cup is the first ICC tournament to be held in the United States. A total of 20 teams will be in the fray this time which is a record.  Two teams — England and hosts West Indies — have won the title 2 times each.

In terms of all-time batting records, Indian cricket talisman Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 1142 runs from 26 innings. He has scored14 half centuries but has yet to make a 100 in this tournament. Mahela Jayawardene is second in the table with 1016 runs from 31 innings. India skipper Rohit Sharma (1015 runs) is third while Chris Gayle (965) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (897) close out the top 5.

In terms of all-time bowling records, Bangladesh’s wily allrounder Shakib Al Hasan is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 47 from 35 innings. He has claimed 3 four-wicket hauls in the tournament. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi is second in the table with 39 wickets from 34 innings.

Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga (38 wickets from 31 innings), Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal (36 wickets from 23 innings) and Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis (35 wickets from 21 innings) are in the top five wicket-takers in the tournament in the first 8 editions.
