Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Results: The INDIA bloc, which was expected to suffer a massive defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, according to the exit poll results, managed to put up an impressive fight against the Narendra Modi-led NDA, as it ended up with 232 seats in their account after the conclusion of counting on Tuesday, June 4.

The counting day had some of the biggest ups and downs in the trends, as multiple big names managed to escape with a victory after trailing in the early trends, including PM Narendra Modi himself, who at one point was trailing behind his Congress counterpart Ajay Rai for a brief period of time in Varanasi.

However, while multiple names were able to escape the early scares, there are also some who fell victim to some of the biggest upsets in Lok Sabha elections history. Here is the list of five upsets that no one saw coming.

The union minister, Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to cause a major upset, was forced to suffer a major upset in 2024, as veteran Congress leader KL Sharma defeated her from Amethi seat by a margin of over 1 lakh votes to reclaim the historically stronghold seat of Congress government.

2] TMC’s Yusuf Pathan beats Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary

After TMC released their 2024 Lok Sabha list, one of the most shocking names was the name of former Indian cricketer Yusuf Patan, who the party pitted against two-time sitting MP of Congress Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. However, what everyone expected to be just a publicity move ended up as TMC’s masterstroke as Yusuf Pathan ended up defeating Adhir Ranjan to confirm his seat in the lower house of the Indian Parliament.

During the ticket distribution period for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, two names that had the biggest suspense were Maneka Gandhi and his son Varun Gandhi. While the BJP high command opted not to give the ticket to Varun Gandhi, they still went ahead with Maneka Gandhi from the Sultanpur seat. However, Menaka also got caught in SP’s impressive run in Uttar Pradesh as she lost to Rambhual Nishad by a margin of 43,174 votes.

4] SP’s Utakarsh Verma defeats BJP’s Ajay Mishra Teni

Another big name that caught in SP’s storm during the 2024 Lok Sabha election results was the Union Minister and two-time MP Ajay Kumar Teni, who lost to SP’s Utkarsh Verma Madhur by a small margin of 34,329 votes in the Kheri Lok Sabha seat. Ajay Mishra Teni’s son’s alleged involvement in violence against farmers can be the reason behind his unexpected loss.

A result that even the opposing parties would have also not seen coming was BJP’s loss in Faizabad Lok Sabha constituencies after the historic inauguration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya (Faizabad’s constituency) earlier this year, BJP was the favourite to win. However, SP’s Awadesh Prasad somehow managed to def BJP’s Lallu Singh to secure another win for Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.
