6 Independents, 10 from non-INDIA, non-NDA parties win elections

In Sangli seat in Maharashtra, independent candidate and Congress rebel Vishal Prakashbapu Patil beat his immediate rival Sanjay (Kaka) Patil of the BJP by over 1 lakh votes.

At least 16 of the 543 members in the 18th Lok Sabha will be from non-NDA or non-INDIA bloc parties or Independents, including two persons who fought the elections from behind bars – Khalistan separatist Amritpal Singh, who won from Khadoor Sahib in Punjab and Baramulla winner Engineer Rashid, who is jailed in a terror funding case under the UAPA.

In Sangli seat in Maharashtra, independent candidate and Congress rebel Vishal Prakashbapu Patil beat his immediate rival Sanjay (Kaka) Patil of the BJP by over 1 lakh votes.

Amritpal, who is lodged in an Assam jail, won with a margin of 1.97 lakh votes. Another Independent Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa won from Faridkot in Punjab. Notably, jailed J&K leader Rashid won with a huge margin of 2 lakh votes, beating  former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference candidate Omar Abdullah.

Another Congress rebel Pappu Yadav won from Purnia in Bihar. Two other Independent candidates – Patel Umeshbhai Babubhai from Daman and Diu and Mohmad Naneefa from Ladakh – also won the LS polls.

Among the 10 winning candidates from non-NDA and non-INDIA parties is AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who retained his seat, Hyderabad.

Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) leader Chandrashekhar, the co-founder of the Bhim Army, won from Nagina in Uttar Pradesh with a remarkable margin of 1.51 lakh votes.

Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal retained her seat, Bhatinda.  The YSRCP won three seats and was leading in one in Andhra Pradesh.

Voice of the People Party  candidate Ricky Andrew J Syngkon from Meghalaya with a margin of over 3.71 lakh votes.

The lone LS seat in Mizoram was won by Zoram People’s Movement candidate Richard Vanlalhmangaiha.
