Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha Elections 2024Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As Uttar Pradesh holds a large number of Lok Sabha seats, every political party has a strong focus on the state during the elections, because it has the capability to turn the tide of the elections completely.

Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Uttar Pradesh is one of the three states alongside Bihar and West Bengal, which will go under polling in all seven phases of the 18th Lok Sabha elections. 14 of the 80 seats from the state were under polling in Phase 6 on Saturday, May 25, 2024, with a total voter turnout of 54.03 per cent, which is significantly lower than the national average of 61.85 per cent during Phase 6. Uttar Pradesh now has a total aggregate of 56.01 per cent after the first six phases. 13 of the remaining seats of the state will be under polling next in phase 7 on Saturday, June 1.

The state of Uttar Pradesh is often referred to as the most important state during any Lok Sabha Elections, because it has the most number of Lok Sabha seats, i.e. 80. The importance of this number can be understood by the fact that the state with the second most number of seats, Maharashtra has only 48 Lok Sabha seats in their account. Notably, Uttar Pradesh has also given India the most number of Prime Ministers, i.e., eight, which is four times more than the state at second position, which is Madhya Pradesh with two.

As Uttar Pradesh holds a large number of Lok Sabha seats, every political party has a strong focus on the state during the elections, because it can turn the tide of the elections completely. In 2019, BJP-led NDA won a total of 64 seats, out of which 62 were won by the BJP itself. Once again in 2024, BJP will contest most of the seats from the NDA alliance, while the seats will be distributed between the other parties contesting under the I.N.D.I.A alliance banner, i.e., SP, Congress, etc.

How many phases Uttar Pradesh will have?

Uttar Pradesh is one of the states whose elections are divided into all the phases of Lok Sabha Elections, which was seven in 2019 and nine in 2014. Following the trend, Uttar Pradesh is all set to have its 2024 General Elections scheduled in all seven phases, along with Bihar and West Bengal.

How many constituencies Uttar Pradesh has?

Uttar Pradesh has a total of 80 constituencies, out of which 63 are unreserved seats while 17 seats are reserved for the SC candidates. In the 2019 elections BJP-led NDA won a total of 64 seats, While Mahagathbandhan alliance between BSP, SP and RLD won a total of 15 seats. The INC-led UPA only managed to secure one seat during the 17th Lok Sabha Elections.

Candidates list of 2024 Elections

The BJP-led NDA will once again be looking to continue their dominance over the largest state of India, with BJP themselves contesting on around 70 seats, while the newly formed I.N.D.I.A alliance will be looking to overturn the tides and take the majority with the help of their collective efforts. Interestingly, BSP who was the second largest party in the 17th Lok Sabha Elections in Uttar Pradesh, will be contesting the elections alone after rejecting the offers to join with either NDA or I.N.D.I.A alliance.
