YouTube Music, the go-to music streaming app for millions of users is reportedly getting a new AI-powered feature that might allow users to create a custom radio using text prompts.
First spotted by a Reddit user who goes by the name kater_pro, the new functionality currently seems to be available to a handful of users as an experimental feature. If and when YouTube decides to make the feature available to everyone, a new card will appear on the Home feed with the text “Ask for music any way you like.”
As you can see in the screenshot below, the purple-coloured card looks pretty similar to the currently available “Create a radio: Your music timer” card that appears on the home feed.
Clicking on the new card will open a fullscreen UI with a text field at the bottom of the screen that says ‘Ask for Music’ along with some sample prompts. Once you type in the type of music you want to hear, it will generate a new radio station and use the already available playlist interface to show you the upcoming songs.
YouTube Music also shows a disclaimer at the bottom which suggests that these AI-generated responses are experimental and may not be accurate all the time. When the Reddit user asked for ‘Queer Hip Hop Beats’, YouTube Music generated a description with the text ‘Rhymes and flows from the heart, a celebration of queer price in hip hop’s art.’
