The third beta of iOS 18 is now out and is available for over 20 different iPhone models, starting from the iPhone XR. While no significant new features are being introduced with this update, it fixes some of the bugs and issues from the first two builds of iOS 18.
Some of the major improvements in iOS 18 include additional home screen customisation options, better implementation of dark mode icons, new flashlight animation for the iPhone 15 Pro series, and a new colour-changing dynamic wallpaper option.
For those who are already on the second iOS 18 developer beta, the third beta is around 1.2 GB in size. Install this update with caution, as it is far from perfect and might break some basic functionalities. We also do not recommend installing the beta build on your primary device.
Besides, Apple has also introduced some minor changes to the Photos app, which now includes a Select button at the top right corner, making it easy to select and share multiple photos/videos at once.
With the iOS 18 beta 3, Apple has also added an important update to RCS messaging with a “learn more” button. On top of that, the emoji keyboard has been tweaked to make emojis look bigger, and when the iPhone is in focus mode, messages will not show contact details.
The first beta of iOS 18 was introduced at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June with several new features such as a redesigned control centre, customisable home screen, ChatGPT-powered Siri, and more.
The iOS 18 beta 3 looks like an update that’s focused more on stabilising the platform, rather than introducing new features. Those who are waiting for the Apple Intelligence beta on iPhone might have to wait for a few more weeks, while the stable version is reportedly coming out only in 2025.
