At Computex 2024, Asus today announced the ROG Ally X, bringing several notable upgrades its predecessor – the ROG Ally (review). Designed for gamers who want to play the latest PC titles on the go, the ROG Ally X runs on Windows 11 and features the tried and tested AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

While the CPU performance remains the same as its predecessor, Asus says the handheld has an “updated chassis for improved ergonomics, cooling and connectivity.” The newly announced ROG Ally X comes with up to 24GB RAM and offers up to 1TB SSD storage, making it easy to run demanding games without any hiccups.

On the cooling front, the new and improved thermal solution now comes with new fans that are 23 per cent smaller and have 50 per cent more blades, which Asus claims improves the airflow by 10 per cent and a third vent now reduces the temperature by six degrees Celsius.

The chassis has also been redesigned, having “slightly deeper handles and a more rounded shape for improved comfort, without adding much thickness to the device.” Asus claims the buttons and sticks now have a slightly more rounded shape and the triggers are now easier to press, making it more comfortable for longer usage. The company also incorporated user feedback and replaced the joysticks with a “more durable module” and “stiffer springs”. For fighting and retro games, the D-Pad is more precise.

Asus has ditched the original XG Mobile port in favour of two USB-C ports, one of which is Thunderbolt compatible. Asus says the ROG Ally X packs an 80Wh battery, which is double the size of the original. And while the handheld device now supports 100W fast charging, for reasons unknown, the bundled charger is still rated at 65W.

Festive offer

The ROG Ally X weighs 678 grams, making it 70 grams more heavier than its predecessor. Other notable features include dual front-facing speakers, updated Armory Crate software and Seamless Sync.

Asus ROG Ally X is currently available for pre-order in Taiwan for 25,999 TWD, which roughly translates to Rs 66,827. However, there is no word on if Asus plans to bring the handheld gaming device to India.
