Apple Vision Pro supports popular video streaming platforms: Will offer 150 3D movies at launch

Apple’s $3,500 mixed-reality headset – the Vision Pro is all set to make its debut in the US on February 2. Ahead of the launch, the Cupertino-based tech giant announced that the upcoming headset can turn any space into a personal theatre.

According to Apple, users can watch content from popular streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and more. They can also download and stream TV shows, films, sports and other apps and use Safari and other browsers.

The tech giant also unveiled that the Vision Pro will get 150 3D movies at launch, including Avatar: The Way of Water, Dune, The Super Mario Bros and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Apple will allow wearers to get 3D versions of eligible movies for free. Some streaming platforms like Disney+ will also let users watch new and popular movies in 3D on the Vision Pro, with the streaming giant planning to add Disney+ exclusive titles in the future.

Vision Pro supports Apple’s new Immersive Video format that captures 3D 180-degree videos in 8K with Spatial Audio support. The tech giant has even curated a collection of immersive films and series like Adventure, Wild Life and Prehistoric Planet Immersive to name a few,  all of which will be available at launch.

For those on the go, Apple is adding a Travel Mode functionality that will help stabilize visuals when travelling on planes. If you want to share the headset with someone, the tech giant has also added a feature called ‘Guest Users’ that allows the headset to share specific apps and experiences with others.

Apple Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset that packs a high-resolution micro-OLED screen. The company claims it can last up to 2 hours on a single charge and offers 2.5 hours of video playback. Users also have the option to power it using an external battery pack via a USB-C cable. The headset will be available for pre-order starting January 19 with Apple saying it supports more than one million iOS and iPadOS apps that are optimised for the device.
