The Tilaknagar police booked two directors and three senior functionaries of a company that runs a digital platform for shipping documentation for allegedly duping a businessman of Rs 2 crore by offering him lucrative returns on his investment.
Police have booked directors of ODeX India Solutions Pvt Ltd Liji Nowal, Binai Thoppil, and Vinit Shetty, Anand Raman and Kapil Patel on the complaint of Ramesh Patel, who has a business of selling and buying computers.
According to the police complaint, between October 2016 and June 30 this year, the accused directors and other senior functionaries of ODeX allegedly induced Patel, a Ghatkopar resident, into investing money in their business.
The accused claimed if he was promised exorbitant returns on his investment with the company and that they would also give him equity share in the market.
Convinced by the lucrative offer, Patel invested Rs 2.30 crore in the company but did not get the promised profit in stipulated time. He got some part of his investment back but was yet to get back Rs 2 crore, said a police officer.
When Patel observed that the accused persons have no intention of returning his money, he approached police and lodged a complaint. On Monday, police filed an FIR against five people from ODeX company under Sections 34, 406, 409 and 420 of the IPC.
An ODeX spokesperson said, “This is a frivolous complaint without any merit. We will be fighting it to the fullest extent of the law and believe it will be dismissed quickly.”
