Kalki 2898 AD Box Office Collection Day 12: Following a splendid second weekend in theatres, director Nag Ashwin’s Prabhas and Deepika Padukone-starrer Kalki 2898 AD witnessed an anticipated yet significant slump in its daily box office figures on its second Monday. Over the weekend, Kalki had accumulated a total domestic nett collection of Rs 78.5 crore, with Sunday alone contributing Rs 44.35 crore.

However, on Monday, Kalki’s India nett collection dropped to Rs 11.35 crore, marking a decline of over 74.41 per cent, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This downturn is concerning for the film’s makers as it jeopardises their hopes of Kalki passing the Rs 1000 crore mark worldwide. A comparison with the second Monday performances of the top 5 Indian grossers underscores that Kalki’s earnings are notably lower. Dangal, the highest-grossing film in Indian cinema history, which ended its theatrical run after registering a GBOC of Rs 2,070.3 crore, earned Rs 13.45 crore on its second Monday in 2016. Meanwhile, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, and Jawan, which occupy the subsequent top positions in the box office collections table, recorded Rs 30 crore, Rs 20.3 crore, Rs 19.9 crore, and Rs 19.1 crore respectively on their corresponding second Mondays.

The night shows, however, witnessed a dip and stood at 27.02 per cent. At the same time, its 3D version recorded an overall occupancy rate of 22.11 per cent.

The movie’s producers, Vyjayanthi Films, announced on Monday that the epic science-fiction film has crossed another milestone and entered the Rs 900 crore (GBOC) club, making it only the 10th Indian movie to surpass this mark.

Besides Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, Kalki also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in key roles. In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote “Kalki may have Prabhas as the headliner, but it is Amitabh Bachchan all the way — his Ashwatthama is suitably gravelly and towers over the film. Kamal Haasan comes on sparingly but does leave an impact.”
