Taapsee Pannu says her success in Bollywood is not just a ‘fluke,’ asserts she did everything on her own: ‘I need to sit back now’

Taapsee Pannu recently observed that paparazzi sometimes push and press celebrities' buttons in pursuit of clickbait, a behaviour she doesn't entertain.

Actor Taapsee Pannu, last seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunkihas opened up about her Bollywood journey. From doing action-packed thrillers to complex character roles, Taapsee said that she has come a long way. The actor also stressed the importance of balance in her career and said that she needs to “relax” now. Taapsee also spoke about her equation with the paparazzi, advocating for mutual respect.

During a chat with Hindustan Times, Taapsee took a trip down memory lane and recalled the different kinds of roles she’s played in films like Baby and Naam Shabana. She also talked about trying new things in movies like Saand Ki Aankh, and playing complex characters in Haseen Dillruba and Manmarziyaan. The actor said, “I’m at a position where I feel I’ve done quite a bit, I worked really hard and did everything by my own merit, so my success is not a fluke. I consistently pushed myself, so it’s a very happy and satisfied place.”

Reflecting on her decade in Bollywood, Taapsee acknowledged the ongoing stream of projects she has been involved in, moving from one film to another. She said, “I need to sit back, enjoy the time, relax and rejuvenate, and then come back with something that’s going to challenge me further. That’s because I’ve been in that momentum of just pushing myself every single day. And when you suddenly put that stop to me, it is very difficult to come to terms with it.”

Besides her performances, Taapsee has often made headlines for her bitter-sweet interactions with the paps as well. The actor said that the paparazzi feel she is difficult, but in reality she is just being real. She said, “In an urge to get clickbait photos and captions for their Insta pages, they sometimes push and press the buttons of all celebrities, which I am not comfortable with. As a pap, if you talk to me, and I’ll have a conversation, but if you press my buttons saying, ‘Your last film didn’t work, how does it feel?’ or ‘Itni der se khade hain, photo to de do (We have been waiting for so long, gives us photos)’, then I’m not going to indulge you. There needs to be mutual respect.”

Taapsee also shared her take on celebrities’ interactions with paps, introducing the term “Lajvanti.” She describes it as being overly submissive and sweet, pretending to be clueless, which she admits she can’t do. She said, “I feel I am allowed to have a life beyond my work as an entertainer, too.”

The actor has interesting films in her kitty. She will next be seen in Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba and Khel Khel Mein.
