Director Nag Ashwin’s epic sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD is breaking one box office record after the other and has already surpassed Rs 900 crore in worldwide gross. It is likely to join the prestigious Rs 1,000 crore club in a few days. Starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD and is heavily inspired by the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

While the film has received praise for various aspects, particularly its technical achievements, among the cast, Amitabh Bachchan, playing Ashwatthama, has been receiving the most acclaim for his performance. His impressive execution of the stunt sequences has left many in awe and reinforced his title as the “Shahenshah.”

Despite working as an actor for the past 55 years, Bachchan still exhibits a child-like curiosity about cinema, according to director Ashwin. This is evident in Big B’s recent tweet on X (formerly Twitter), where he stated that Kalki was ” not just a film for me, it’s a learning, an education,” validating Ashwin’s comment.

“He was really curious about technology. He was very curious to know how we were going to make him 8 feet tall. And, for the humongous star that he is and for the delays that we generally have on set, he was the most patient, non-intrusive person. He would just patiently come, sit in his massive amount of prosthetic, wig, and beard and not complain at all,” Ashwin said during a chat with IndiaToday.in.

“The first time I was completely taken aback and speechless was during the first schedule. I think we were shooting, and were delayed. We were trying to catch up and he came up to me and I was trying to make an excuse to him about the delay and he’s like, ‘Can I just use the restroom and come?’ I said, ‘Why are you asking me, sir, you can do whatever you want.’ So he’s just he’s just that great,” he added.

In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote “Kalki may have Prabhas as the headliner, but it is Amitabh Bachchan all the way — his Ashwatthama is suitably gravelly and towers over the film. Kamal Haasan comes on sparingly but does leave an impact.”
