The Supreme Court on July 9 dismissed a plea that demanded lowering the cut-off for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that the lowering of the cut-off would affect the quality of lawyers practicing in India, LiveLaw reported.

“They have put a cut-off of 45 for the general category and 40 for SC/ST. What kind of lawyer will the person be if they cannot score this much? You are asking to lower it to 40 and 35!” CJI said.

“Padho bhai! (please study),” CJI told the petitioner in passing.

Meanwhile, recently the Madras High Court dismissed a plea seeking to reduce the application fee for the AIBE which is conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The decision was announced by the bench of Acting Chief Justice R Mahadevan and Justice GR Swaminathan.
