With over 13 departments which are offering nine BTech courses, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala’s positioning in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has seen an upward trend.
The Agartala-based institute has seen a series of declines in the past five years in the NIRF ranking under the engineering category with a single ranking improvement in 2022 to 80 position that also declined in 2023 to 91 position.
The Institute is currently not ranked in the QS World University Rankings or the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Additionally, it does not appear in the NIRF rankings for overall, innovation, research, or management categories.

In the NIRF 2023 ranking, under the engineering category, NIT Agartala has obtained 54.37 in teaching, learning and resources (TRL) out of 100, 28.21 in research and professional practice (RPC) out of 100, 59.38 in graduation outcomes (GO), 59.61 in outreach and inclusivity (OI) and 6.26 in perception out of 100.
NIT Agartala’s NIRF ranking for the engineering category may have declined last year, but its NIRF score has seen a slight increase from 41.92 in 2022 to 43.24 in 2023. This follows an upward trend from 39.86 in 2021, 39.98 in 2020, and 39.53 in 2019.
Formerly known as Tripura Engineering College, the government converted it into National Institute of Technology Agartala in 2006. As of now, it boasts 23 Master’s in Engineering courses, and four dual degrees (B.Tech + M.Tech). Additionally, it offers courses in MBA, MCA, M.Sc, and doctoral programs.
