The engineering aspirants can soon pursue BTech in Hindi at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. A proposal in this regard has been approved, the Ministry of Education informed today. The admission will be done on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2024) score.

The classes will commence from this academic year. Before the commencement of session, IIT-Jodhpur will have two sections depending on the language preference, and the same instructor will teach both sections to maintain consistency and rigor in education. In a statement, IIT-Jodhpur said, the students will also have the choice to switch between sections. The students will face the same evaluations, ensuring the same rigor in the teaching-learning processes will be maintained by IIT Jodhpur.

Prof Avinash Kumar Agarwal, director of IIT Jodhpur, emphasised the importance of this initiative in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. “Teaching first-year courses in both Hindi and English will enhance students’ comprehension and interaction with the course material, facilitating a seamless adaptation to the academic environment of IIT Jodhpur,” Agarwal said.

He highlighted the language barrier faced by many students from non-English speaking backgrounds and proposed this bilingual approach to ensure equal rigor in the teaching-learning process for both language sections.

Moreover, in 2021, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had approved 11 regional-language BTech courses in India.
