Days after a 25-year-old man went missing from Moshi on June 15 after he left home for work on that day, the probe by Pimpri Chinchwad police has revealed that he was bludgeoned to death allegedly by four kin of his wife as they disapproved their marriage. His body was then burnt and the remains were thrown in a river to destroy evidence, police said.

The deceased identified as Amir Mohammed Shaikh (25), a resident of Moshi and native of Parner in Ahmednagar, who worked as a driver for a private company, was reported missing on June 15 after he left for work. A missing persons case was registered by his wife Arina alias Nikita, whose family also hails from Parner. The two had married six months ago, in spite of opposition from the families, police said.

Police have arrested three family members of his wife — her brother Sushant Gaikwad (22), her sister’s husband Pankaj Paikrao (28) and Paikrao’s relative Sunil Chakranarayan (33). A search has been launched for the fourth suspect Ganesh Gaikwad, who is also Arina’s relative.

The probe revealed that the deceased had received a call from Paikrao. Subsequently, based on the complaint filed by Amir’s father, Mohammed Kasim Shaikh, a case of kidnapping was registered against Paikrao and other relatives of Amir’s wife.

The father said in his FIR that they could have kidnapped him because of their opposition to Amir and Arina’s marriage, which had taken place six months ago and that they could have harmed him.

Festive offer

“Investigation has revealed as per the conspiracy they had allegedly hatched, Paikrao called Amir and asked him to join him and other suspects to consume liquor. They drank at a hotel on Pune-Nashik highway. After that Amir went to work. Later Paikrao again called him to consume liquor with them. Paikrao purchased liquor from Alandi Phata and went with Amir to a forest area near Medankarwadi on Chakan Alandi Road. Sushant and Ganesh came to the spot later, probe has revealed,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivaji Pawar.

Pawar added, “Sushant and Ganesh then beat up and bludgeoned Amir to death with a rock. The two subsequently obtained light diesel oil from the premises of a private tar processing company in Kuruli area of Khed taluka with the help of fourth suspect Chakranarayan, who works as a helper at that company. Sushant and Ganesh then burnt down the body. On June 17, they threw the remains, that included ashes and bones, in a river, in order to destroy the evidence.”
