Mumbai Rains Highlights, July 12: Rains continued to lash Mumbai on Friday, with intermittent spells of moderate to heavy showers slowing down public transport services and traffic. The rains led to waterlogging in several low-lying pockets such as Gandhi Market area, Hindmata and Santacruz’s Milan subway, leading the BMC to deploy its pumping station to clear the accumulated water. In the Western suburbs, the subway between Andheri and Jogeshwari railway stations was left submerged. BEST bus traffic was diverted on several routes due to the downpour.

How much rain has Mumbai received today? The Santacruz Observatory recorded 116 mm rain between Thursday and Friday morning, while the Colaba coastal observatory received 86 mm rain during the same period. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) automatic weather station, the island city division received an average of 93.16 mm rain, followed by 78.93 mm rain in the western suburbs and the eastern suburbs which recorded 66.03 mm rainfall.

What does the weather forecast say? Mumbai will continue to receive heavy rainfall, with the IMD issuing an orange alert till Saturday, which coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city. A civic official said there will be a high tide of 3.87 metres in the Arabian Sea at 4.09 pm today, reported PTI. An orange alert has been issued in Thane and Raigad as well between today and Saturday.

Amid heavy rainfall alert, PM Modi in Mumbai tomorrow: What is his schedule?

PM Modi will inaugurate multiple civic-infrastructure projects amounting to Rs 7,470 crore. The projects have been undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Modi is slated to hold the rally at the NESCO Center in Goregaon and the BMC has already initiated the process to reserve the place.

Civic officials said the PM will be inaugurating the boring works of the underground tunnel which will be a part of the BMC's ambitious Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. The cost of this project is being pegged at Rs 6,300 crore.

Besides this, PM Modi will also inaugurate the BMC's proposed Rs 1,170 crore project to create an elevated connector between Orange Gate and Grant Road in south Mumbai.

Due to the showers, low-lying areas like Sion saw waterlogging prompting authorities to divert road traffic. In the Western suburbs, the Andheri subway between Andheri and Jogeshwari railway stations was shut to traffic after it was left submerged. BEST bus traffic was diverted on several routes due to the downpour.
