An office-bearer of Apna Dal (Sonelal) was shot dead, allegedly by his neighbour, over a land dispute near his house at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place when Indrajeet Patel, alias Monu (24), a final-year law student and a functionary of the party’s district legal cell, was working in his fields.
The police have arrested Sarvesh Patel (28), a farmer, on the charge of murder.
Apna Dal (Sonelal) is headed by Union minister Anupriya Patel. Prayagraj Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhishek Bharti said a police team rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident.
Sarvesh allegedly approached Patel from behind and fired at him, police said, adding that he tried to escape while brandishing the weapon but was overpowered.
