Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal assembly, gave Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi “a USB drive with video footage” of various alleged incidents of “mob violence” perpetrated in West Bengal.

This was Adhikari’s first meeting with the Union Minister after the Lok Sabha polls this year. The BJP leader has been under fire from a section of his fellow leaders who held him responsible for the party’s loss in West Bengal, since he had a say in the selection of candidates for around 30 seats.

Adhikari wrote on X that the meeting lasted for 45 minutes. “I would like to thank Hon’ble Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation; Shri @AmitShah…(he) patiently listened about the “Mob Violence” that has gripped West Bengal and the atrocities committed on women by TMC Leaders Tajimul alias JCB in Chopra & Jayant Singh in Kamarhati-Ariadaha,” he wrote in a X post.

The leader was referring to the public whipping a woman and a man over an alleged extramarital affair at a salishi sabha (kangaroo court), allegedly by a TMC worker, which took place in Uttar Dinajpur district’s Chopra on June 28. Outrage had mounted after a video clip of the assault surfaced online.

Among other recent incidents and allegations, he mentioned the case of the party’s minority morcha woman leader being beaten up, stripped and dragged by her hair in Cooch Behar district on June 25. The police, saying it was over a family feud, had arrested seven persons in connection with the incident, while the BJP has alleged the perpetrators are TMC miscreants.

Festive offer

As for Amit Shah’s response, Adhikari wrote: “He enquired about the victims of the post poll violence and extended full support regarding the abatement of the same. I handed over a USB drive to him which contains video footage of the Chopra public flogging incident, the Cooch Behar disrobing incident of a lady BJP Minority Morcha Karyakarta, the Bankra Gang War between two factions of TMC and TMC Panchayat Members in Murshidabad roaming around with crude bombs, and the Ariadaha incident.”

Meanwhile, Adhikari also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and wrote a letter to her regarding the alleged misappropriation of welfare funds by TMC’s Mamata Banerjee-led government.

“I met Hon’ble Union Finance Minister; Smt. @nsitharaman Ji and tried to draw her attention towards the prospect of intentional diversion & misappropriation of developmental and welfare funds by the West Bengal Government, as a desperate attempt to delay the ensuing financial meltdown in the state. I submitted a few documents to her,” he said in another X post.
