Take daily rounds of the hospital every day, enhance the facility of rapid testing and treatment, ensure that there is no waterlogging outside hospitals: these are among the instructions Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has given out to Medical Superintendents of all Delhi government hospitals in view of the rise in the number of dengue cases in the Capital.
A total of 246 cases have been recorded in the city between January 1 and June 29 this year, the highest for the time period since at least 2019. No death has been reported yet due to dengue, though.
In a meeting with officials from the state health department on Monday, Bharadwaj asked officials to check if patients of vector-borne diseases are being looked after well at the hospitals. He also asked them to ensure availability of mosquito nets in sufficient quantities at the hospitals. He said information about measures to prevent dengue should be disseminated to the public through social media and other communication mediums.
Officials from the state health department say the strain is of mild nature, adding that on Sunday, only two new admissions were reported. “Hospitals have been asked to not dump medical waste outside their premises,” an official said.
Besides, Bharadwaj has instructed officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to intensify fogging and cleaning campaigns in dengue-prone areas.
The hospitals have been asked to take a decision on the number of beds on a need basis.
Amid record showers, Delhi has been reporting a high number of dengue cases this year.
However, officials insist the figure can be attributed to better reporting, including from private laboratories.
