Man stabs his wife and critically injures neighbour who tried to intervene; dies after slitting own throat

Amitabh Ahirwar, 27, died on the spot. His wife Seema is battling for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Rohini. Their four children — Abhishek, 8, Taarika, 7, Anurag, 5, and Dev, 2 — are waiting at the hospital. The neighbour, Rajan Varma, who had intervened, is also critical with multiple knife wounds.

Amitabh and Seema had been married for nine years.

“Amitabh had been drinking and indulging in gambling. He was not working at all. Seema and her children first went to her family home in Madhya Pradesh before finally landing in Delhi to be with her father,” said Rajesh, Seema’s brother-in-law, who lives in the same jhuggi.

In the slum behind G P Block in Pitampura, Seema had taken a room on rent next to the jhuggi where her father stays; he works as a security guard in Maurya Enclave nearby.

“He (Seema’s father) is not in a good condition right now. He just went out, without saying anything,” said Neelam, a relative.

Back at the slum, Seema and Rajan’s rooms are locked. The blood on the outer walls of Rajan’s house has still not been cleaned.

Rajesh said that on Sunday evening, Seema and Amitabh had an argument. Rajan, who works as a salesman at a fruit shop, was home for lunch. “He heard Seema and her husband fighting. Soon after, Seema was at his door, asking for help,” he told The Indian Express.

“I heard them around 4 pm. When I came out, I saw Rajan and Seema bleeding. Amitabh’s throat was slit,” said Neelam.

Ravi, Rajan’s friend, said that Rajan was stabbed as he was trying to save Seema and his wife. “Amitabh stabbed Seema in the stomach.

When Madhu (Rajan’s wife) jumped in to save her, Amitabh tried to attack her as well. That’s when Rajan pushed her aside and was stabbed instead, in the stomach. After that, Amitabh slit his own throat,” Ravi said.

“An FIR has been registered under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS,” said Additional DCP Sandhya Swami, North West region.

All three of them were admitted to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini. Amitabh was declared brought dead, police said.
