A gym owner in Delhi convicted of an attempt to murder charge and currently out on bail was allegedly murdered by three to four men in Delhi’s Bhajanpura on Wednesday night, the police said, adding that all the accused are absconding.
The deceased Sumit aka Prem Chaudhary, 28, who lived with his wife and three-year-old son at Gamri Extension, Bhajanpura, sustained over 15 cuts all over his body, they said.
Apart from a gym, Sumit also ran a tour and travel business.
According to the police, Sumit who was sitting outside his house on the night of July 10 had an argument with the accused around 11.30 pm that soon turned nasty.
“One of the men took out a knife. They attacked Sumit multiple times, stabbing his face, neck, chest and abdomen, giving him around 17 wounds,” said DCP Joy Tirkey, North-East Delhi.
The man was taken to the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, Shastri Park, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
A police official at Bhajanpura police station said that the motive of the attack and the nature of the argument between the accused and the victim haven’t been established. “We are still investigating what happened that night,” he said.
CCTV footage is being scanned to nab the accused, the police said.
