The Delhi Police have arrested three delivery boys of a courier delivery company and their accomplice for allegedly stealing 37 shipments worth Rs 10.25 lakh last month.

The arrested have been identified as Raja Kumar, 22, Brijesh Maurya, 22, and Nitin Gola, 26, all employed at Shadowfax Technologies, the courier delivery firm in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar, and Raja Kumar’s elder brother Abhishek (23), the police said.

During interrogation, Kumar who was arrested on July 4 allegedly disclosed that the four accused devised a plan to defraud the company by booking high-value shipments on the same route with cash-on-delivery payments.

As per the plan, Maurya, Gola and Abhilash would hand over the shipments to Raja, who would then switch off his phone and go incommunicado, said the police. Raja Kumar, who had sold the stolen goods through OLX to various buyers, had provided a false residential address to the company to prevent them from tracking him down, investigators said.

The police team collected technical evidence, including call detail records, and inputs from local informants and arrested Raja Kumar from the top-floor of a residence in Pandav Nagar. Based on Kumar’s information, the police arrested the remaining three accused on the intervening night of July 4 and 5.

The police managed to recover 70 per cent of the misappropriated shipments and said that efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining goods.

Police said that Raja’s elder brother had previously worked with the other two accused, and he allegedly played a crucial role in booking the shipments.

On June 19, Shubham Sharma, the hub in-charge of Shadowfax Technologies, reported to the police about the misappropriation of the shipments by Raja Kumar. Sharma stated that Kumar had been unreachable since June 15 and had switched off his phone and vacated his house.

Sharma decided to register a case under IPC section 408 (criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant) against Kumar on July 4.
