Managers Create Complexity and leaders create Simplicity. Managers play a crucial role in overseeing daily operations and ensuring the smooth functioning of the business – essentially, "running the trains on time." They often find themselves engrossed in the day-to-day tasks, sometimes losing sight of opportunities to innovate and improve, leading to cost reduction, enhanced quality, and time savings. On the other hand, #leadership act as catalysts, challenging existing processes and products to ensure the company excels in the market in terms of cost, quality, and efficiency. In many owner-run companies, I have observed a tendency to hire leaders only to assign them managerial roles. If the goal is to maintain the status quo without any intention of initiating change within the company, it might be more suitable to hire individuals who excel in managerial tasks, often referred to as "Yes Sir" people. Genuine leaders are those who challenge the status quo, and the top management of a company should be open to embracing this dynamic. However, it is essential to acknowledge the risks associated with change and ensure a well-planned and carefully crafted journey towards change with continuous monitoring and adjustments.
