The Pant Project, a D2C fashion brand focused on custom-made and ready-to-wear pants, has raised $4.25 million in a Series A round led by Sorin Investments — a VC fund founded by former KKR India CEO Sanjay Nayar. The round also saw participation from marquee investors MGA Ventures, Huddle Ventures, Dexter Ventures, Indian Silicon Valley Capital, as well as seasoned angels like Arjun Vaidya, Avni Biyani, Nikhil B., and Vijay Taparia. The Pant Project is a digitally-native brand that provides custom-made pants for all Indian body sizes. In 2023, it adopted an omnichannel strategy while foraying into ready-to-made pants. With options for both men and women, the brand offers pants across 250 styles ranging from formal to chinos, jeans, cargos, joggers, power stretch knit pants, luxury linens, and wool.  The Pant Project claims to record 65% of its revenue from its website. ChrysCapital to invest $100m in India’s Lenskart Private equity firm ChrysCapital is set to invest $100 million in Indian eyewear brand Lenskart. The latest investment, which will be via primary and secondary share purchases, brings Lenskart’s total capital infusion to nearly $850m in the last 12 months. Direct-to-consumer (D2C) skincare startup Foxtale has secured $18 Mn (around INR 150 Cr) in its Series B funding round led by Singapore-based Panthera Growth Partners, with participation from existing backers Matrix Partners India and Kae Capital 👇 The Mumbai-based startup plans to use the fresh capital to expand its digital footprint and introduce newer categories in its portfolio of products, founder and CEO Romita Mazumdar said. Founded in 2021, Foxtale provides targeted skincare solutions to address a variety of skin concerns such as acne, ageing and hyperpigmentation among others. It sells a wide range of skincare products such as serums, masks, moisturisers, face washes, sunscreens, which are retailed on Foxtale’s website, online marketplaces and offline stores. This marks their second significant investment in the past seven months, highlighting their unwavering commitment to the company's growth. The board at Lenskart approved a special resolution to issue 695,875 CCPS at an issue price of Rs 2,300 each, raising Rs 160 crore or $19.12 million. As per an article authored by Samidha Sharma India’s startup and technology ecosystem is witnessing the emergence of a growing pool of influential founders turning into funders by backing multiple domestic funds. In the latest instance, CaratLane - A Tanishq Partnership founder Mithun Sacheti and Flipkart cofounder Binny Bansal have become anchor LPs (limited partners) in Bengaluru-based Xeed Ventures, an early-stage fund run by Sailesh Tulshan, said multiple people in the know. The Rs 600 crore fund, formerly known as 021 Capital, has also roped in Premji Invest as an LP, the people added. "Armani Exchange, Superdry, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and US Polo Assn are said to be running out of local shoe stocks as the government wants factories they are made in to be certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These plants are mostly based in China, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, and BIS has not certified any overseas footwear factories. India’s regulatory environment has affected the industry since production capacities are limited in India, Skechers global CFO John Vandemore said during the company’s earnings call on April 26. Many of the brands have been forced to take footwear off the shelf — online and offline — or are selling a much smaller range with old stock, industry executives said. The BIS Quality Control Order (QCO) mandates compulsory certification for factories making the final product and some specified key components, such as rubber, PVC or polyurethane soles and heels. The QCO was implemented in July last year for leather shoes, while for sports shoes, sandals, clogs and slippers, it was to come into effect from January this year. That deadline was subsequently extended in March to August but the companies say such piecemeal extensions hamper supply chain planning. They also fear the goods may not reach their stores on time since it takes five-six months from production to custom clearance, experts said. Reliance Brands, which operates Armani Exchange and Superdry in India, and Arvind Fashions, which sells Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and US Polo Assn, did not respond to emailed queries. The regulation will push companies to set up production facilities in India, according to executives. There will always be challenges in the initial phase of implementation because the supply chain gets disturbed, said Anupam Bansal, director of retail at Liberty Shoes, adding that these issues will get resolved. “The negatives are very temporary in nature,” he said. “The positive is that the Indian footwear industry will get developed, people will have more effective production in India, in fact it will reduce their supply chain cost.” Abhishek Ganguly, CEO of homegrown footwear manufacturer Agilitas Sports, said global brands need to have a distinct supply chain strategy for India in the present environment or they will not be able to operate. “The large global sports shoe brands have already crafted a make in-India strategy with India now having the capability to manufacture even the expensive range,” he said. “Only those brands for whom shoes are a small part of the business are suffering.”" Full report: https://lnkd.in/gjWtc7V2
