    Expediting multi million dollars of VAT refunds in South Africa through process optimization and discussions with SARS. Creating SOX Controls for VAT / GST compliances periodically so that any exception gets escalated early.

  • Onshore China Holding Structure

    -

    Chinese banks often insist for a two layer holding structure at China level so that they can see the HoldCo of the SPV also in China. However, it has adverse repercussions from tax perspective (25% tax vs. 10% under offshore structure). Finding a balance between the two is critical.

  • TK-GK structure in Japan

    -

    For efficient project financing, Japanese banks insist on a TK-GK structure. This is also efficient from a tax perspective but needs to adhere to the regulatory framework. The TK investor acts like a passive investor and the operations are carried on by the GK. There may be a separate asset manager for the GK. Location of the offshore TK in a tax efficient jurisdiction is also critical to the success of the structure.

    Twice own Super Team award in KPMG.

    KPMG was entrusted with a large forensic engagement by a prominent Indian corporate house. This involved restatement of accounts, leading to various potential tax exposures. The contribution made by the team consisting of forensic, accounting advisory and tax practice of KPMG receive accolades from the client. We also could convert this into a large tax engagement that brought in substantial value to the client.
