What is that about what we do at SEWA Cooperative Federation that makes the 30-year-old organisation stand out? In my opinion, it's our ability and intent to create an inclusive space for informal women workers within the mainstream economy. While we see government initiatives like opening the Government e Marketplace (GeM) to informal women collectives, challenges remain that need to be addressed to boost the usage of such platforms and mainstream informal workers further. Here are some recommendation that the SEWA Cooperative Federation team along with SEWA Bharat made to GEM Portal for the this.

Lucky for us I had the chance to meet Father Jerry very early in our journey of V-ALL in the North East. His insights on the approach and the region really helped us think about what we were structuring and we still made a lot of mistakes. After spending a couple of weeks I realised some very basic things. 1. In the impact space of mainland India we just club it as the North East and it is an after thought, the diversity region. 2. Most organisations from outside working there don't understand the diversity of people. If we say India is diverse, the states in the North East are extremely different. North and South Assam are poles apart from each other forget the other states 3. The youth and people in all the states carry trauma and lived experience that we don't even understand. The challenges are different. All I remember from Father Jerry's, Shannon Massar and a lot of others advice and now from our pilots is to listen and to remember that a cut and paste approach is not going to be the solution. The context is different and without locals to conceptualise the solution, we will never be able to help or cause any impact. For us at V-ALL we now have a local team of 7 interns who will think of what next. #vallindia #theroadahead #startup #socialimpact #vall V-ALL

"A useful contribution from the philanthropic community, international and domestic, might be to invest in building the capacity of nonprofits to adopt this approach and strengthen the ecosystem needed to facilitate giving of this kind, especially through digital channels, at the commercial end of which India leads the world." It is time to think about newer models of giving because while the old ones are working. The onus is still all on the NGO to find new donors, keep communicating and raising money from them. Time for philanthropy to step up and change with the rest of the world to see how giving can have newer models. We are in the business to disrupt giving with V-ALL incase anyone wants to have a conversation.

Good example highlighting that policy efforts to promote employment do not always have to involve training or wage subsidies; in some cases targetet interventions to facilitate cheap and safe transportation may be enough (or an important add on to existing programs)

The Evolving Fundraising Landscape in India: Implications for Grassroots Organizations The fundraising landscape in India is undergoing significant transformation, influenced by the rise of digital platforms, changing donor demographics, and increasing regulatory oversight. This shift profoundly affects grassroots organisations, which are crucial for addressing local issues and fostering community development. Digital Revolution in Fundraising The advent of digital platforms has revolutionized how funds are raised and distributed. Crowdfunding platforms like Ketto and Milaap have democratized fundraising, allowing small grassroots organizations to reach a wider audience. These platforms have enabled organizations to tell their stories compellingly, often leading to viral campaigns that attract global attention. For instance, Ketto reported a 48% increase in funds raised in 2022 compared to the previous year, showcasing the growing trust in digital fundraising. Changing Donor Demographics India's burgeoning middle class and the rise of young philanthropists are reshaping the donor landscape. This demographic is more tech-savvy and prefers to donate through online platforms, valuing transparency and immediate impact. According to a Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) report, 68% of Indian millennials are inclined to donate to causes they believe in, highlighting a shift towards purpose-driven giving. Increased Regulatory Oversight With the introduction of stringent regulations like the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) amendments, the fundraising scenario has become more challenging for grassroots organizations reliant on foreign funds. These regulations require more rigorous compliance and reporting, which can strain the limited resources of small organizations. As per the Ministry of Home Affairs, over 5,900 NGOs lost their FCRA licenses between 2019 and 2021, significantly impacting their funding and operations. Impact on Grassroots Organizations While digital platforms offer new opportunities, they also pose challenges such as increased competition and the need for digital literacy. Grassroots organizations often lack the technical expertise to leverage these platforms effectively. Additionally, compliance with new regulations can divert resources away from core activities. Despite these challenges, the evolving fundraising landscape presents an opportunity for grassroots organizations to innovate and adapt. By embracing digital tools and fostering transparency, these organizations can enhance their outreach and impact, ensuring they continue to play a vital role in India's socio-economic development. In conclusion, while the changing fundraising scenario in India presents challenges, it also offers avenues for growth and innovation. Grassroots organizations must navigate these changes strategically to sustain and amplify their impact.
