We just wrapped up an exciting session of "Spin the Yarn" 📖 - our fun, oral storytelling game designed to simply have fun on a Friday (bonus: creativity, teamwork, and the ability to navigate ambiguity, all the ingredients for startup success!) What we aimed for: We split everyone into groups of four, handed each team a unique story prompt, and set them loose to craft captivating tales filled with solid premises, wild twists, and satisfying endings. What we got to see: Absolute magic! Every team spun stories so captivating that they're begging to be written down or turned into blockbuster movies. 🎥 While all teams did a phenomenal job, here's a special shoutout to our "Star Performer," Rishi. His creative twists and story continuations were absolutely top-notch! 🌈 Last week at Vance, we organized a Pride Month Pop-Up in association with the kind folks at Kaha Mind to deepen our understanding of what it means to be queer. Awareness is the first step to understanding, so our entire team participated in an enlightening session, engaging in a fun yet informative bingo game that fostered meaningful discussions and strengthened our commitment to being allies. Combined with an expressive painting session to celebrate diversity and self-expression, this day was nothing short of achieving our goal of creating safe spaces for everyone at Vance. 🤝 One of our small but significant steps at Vance is offering health insurance that is inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community. Today, we're excited to introduce a new member to the Vance-ship - Prathmesh Bhalekar, joining us as in the Backend Engineering Team! His journey is a fascinating blend of engineering, innovation, and an unquenchable curiosity, with COVID playing its part in changing the direction of his life. Growing up with a father who is an engineer and a mother who teaches coding, Prathmesh was clear about what he wanted to do - build things. While his friends joked that Prathmesh should take up arts to round things out with his Father's science & mother's commerce background & set up an educational institute, the innovator in Prathmesh knew he wanted something different. He channeled his early fascination with building things into a passion for engineering, choosing mechanical engineering for its tangible and intuitive nature. However, when COVID-19 hit, it disrupted his access to physical labs and resources. Undeterred, he pivoted towards coding, a skill he could hone from the comfort of home. Inspired by friendly competition with his college peers, he dived into competitive coding, quickly making a name for himself by excelling in multiple hackathons. His most notable achievement was securing a top spot in a Canadian hackathon, where he developed an AR-based guitar learning app – a project inspired by his brother’s unused guitar. As he explored the world of coding, Prathmesh realized his love for building could extend beyond mechanical constructs to digital ones. This was fueled by his self-taught skills and his innate curiosity clubbed with crafting elegant code. Outside of his professional pursuits, Prathmesh is a passionate runner, having transformed his lifestyle during the pandemic. He has set ambitious goals like running triathlons and scuba diving, showing the same determination in his personal challenges as he does in his professional ones. At Vance, Prathmesh is excited to bring his automation and coding expertise to our fast-growing stack. He is drawn to our high-trust environment and eager to contribute in a fast-paced environment. When Kaha Mind, our mental health partner, sent us an intriguing invite: "What if we told you that your demotivation is actually a message about an unmet need?", it certainly got us thinking... Last Thursday, Vance hosted an engaging workshop on "Decoding Motivation" in collaboration with the good folks at Kaha Mind. 🙌 The session delved into the nuances of motivation, teaching us how to decode the signals our bodies and minds send us. A fun and interactive activity (which involved a jar on paper, some colorful stickers, and a whole lot of curious questions) helped us discover what truly motivates each of us. We learned to understand our specific needs and took actionable steps to tap into our intrinsic motivation.
