  • It’s International Day of Friendship today! #DYK, friendship between Americans and Indians existed long before the birth of the Republic of India, dating back to the founding of the United States in 1783? • Last week we hosted an exciting robotics bootcamp at #DostiHouse for over 25 young STEM enthusiasts. With guidance from mentors at @TheInnovationStory, the students mastered the basics of circuitry and programming. They put their skills to test by building cars with motors, learning how to control them, and then racing their creations against each other! We hope this experience was their first step into igniting a lifelong passion for STEM. #USIndiaFwdForTech

  • On this International Tiger Day, we celebrate the tigers of Tadoba, where these majestic creatures roam amidst lush forests and tranquil lakes. Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra is a sanctuary of biodiversity and a crucial habitat for these endangered big cats. As we honor their strength and beauty, let’s also acknowledge the challenges they face—from habitat fragmentation to illegal wildlife trade. It's our collective responsibility to ensure their survival by supporting conservation efforts and promoting sustainable tourism practices. Join us in raising awareness and taking action to protect the tigers of Tadoba and beyond. Together, we can secure a future where these iconic predators thrive in the wild. #InternationalTigerDay

  • Today, on the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), we celebrate the invaluable contributions of the disabilities community to everyday innovations that benefit us all. These breakthroughs not only enhance daily life but also reflect the incredible creativity and problem-solving skills within this community. Here are a few examples that have had a profound impact: Typing Revolution: The typewriter, evolving since its creation, owes much to Italian Pellegrino Turri, who in 1808 developed a typewriter for his blind friend. Today, keyboards and adaptive technologies like Braille keyboards empower millions worldwide. Communication Breakthroughs: From Alexander Graham Bell's early telephonic efforts to James Marsters' TTY system and modern SMS, designed for the deaf and hard of hearing, communication has evolved inclusively, bridging gaps for countless individuals globally. Sipping Solutions: Bendable straws, invented by Joseph Friedman in the 1930s, were initially created to aid patients, yet today they benefit many, including those with mobility challenges, promoting convenience and accessibility. Listening Pleasures: Audiobooks, pioneered by the American Federation for the Blind and made possible by Thomas Edison's phonograph, have become a beloved pastime for millions, offering literary enjoyment for all. These advancements exemplify how innovations born from necessity can enrich the lives of people worldwide. Let's continue to celebrate and support inclusive innovation that benefits everyone. Thank you to the disabilities community for your invaluable contributions, paving the way to a more accessible and inclusive world as we commemorate the ADA anniversary! #ADA https://lnkd.in/dfQmTTxC

  • “My childhood curiosity for machines and metallurgy was sparked by my father, an ace metallurgist who mentored me from an early age. Marrying into a family involved in mechanical engineering further fueled my passion. The role metallurgy plays in crafting essential equipment for our country's development is what captivates me. It's not just a profession but a journey intertwined with family legacy and a commitment to India's progress. Breaking the stereotype that manufacturing is male-exclusive was crucial in my journey. Despite skepticism, I showcased skills, proving that gender should never hinder a career. I sought mentorship from women and men, emphasizing on collaboration and dismantling of biases. Continuous education ensured my skills matched or surpassed my male counterparts. Excelling in my work, I became a testament that capability has no gender. There’s been a notable increase in women joining STEM, including metallurgy and mechanical engineering. This shift reflects changing perceptions and recognizes women's undeniable talent. To encourage more women in STEM, early fostering of interest through educational programs and mentorship is crucial. Companies should actively promote diversity, creating a supportive environment for women in their professional pursuits. To young girls dreaming beyond societal expectations, I say this: Embrace your ambitions fearlessly. Know that challenges may arise, but they are stepping stones towards growth. Surround yourself with mentors who uplift and guide you. Believe in your abilities, and never let anyone define your potential based on gender stereotypes. By pursuing your dreams, you not only shape your destiny but also contribute to dismantling barriers for future generations. Let us celebrate the power of diversity and the boundless potential that lies within every ambitious young girl ready to challenge the status quo. The world is waiting for your unique contributions – go forth and pave the way!" - Nidhi Agrawal, Director of Steel Innovations Private Limited. #USIndiaFWDforTech NIDHI AGRAWAL Steel Innovations Private Limited

  • “Growing up in India, I noticed a distinct lack of hands-on learning in the education system, despite students earning high marks. This highlighted a systematic issue, that good marks secured admissions, but practical life and work skills were missing. This is why I founded Respire Experiential Learning (REL), to give students the hands-on learning to develop essential life skills that are so important later in life, to ensure that students are fully prepared for enacting their learning in real-world applications.   We try to focus our programs on what would help the children in their potential future jobs, specifically on the jobs that exist in the local area. Whether it be mining or agriculture, we aim to help them develop projects that would apply to those fields. This also has the beneficial side effect of showing the parents in those rural areas that what we do at REL has practical applications, which leads to greater enrollment in our programs. Even with some of our more modern topics, such as AI and Robotics, we aim to allow the children a peek into a much larger world that they could one day contribute to, and we open that door for them.   A large problem I see daily when it comes to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) relates to women in STEM. With a distinct lack of role models in the field, pre-conceived notions of gendered education means that parents are often apprehensive in enrolling their daughters in REL’s classes. I try to address this issue in multiple ways, like out comics featuring inspiring women in STEM, as well as special workshops focused on Robotics and AI specifically for girls. Through these efforts, I hope to one day change both the number of women in STEM, and the attitudes in the space towards women that I faced as I studied. While these challenged can be quite disheartening, we should also use them to fuel our determination to create change.” – Monica Yadav, Founder, Respire Experiential Learning. #USIndiaFwdForTech
