National Waffle Day Delight: A Lesson in Modern Social Media Marketing:
On July 19th, I celebrated National Waffle Day for the first time, thanks to a trending #Instagram reel from The Belgian Waffle Co. The advertisement offered any waffle for just Rs 100, prompting me to do some quick research on #Zomato, where I discovered that their regular prices range from Rs 100-200.
Curious and excited, I headed to the nearest Belgian Waffle outlet around 6 PM, only to find a long line of #GenZ and middle-aged enthusiasts.
After a 40-minute wait, I placed my order for #KitKat and Blueberry Cheesecake #waffles, only to realize it would take another 2 hours to receive my order. My bill number was 279, and they were currently serving number 225.During my wait, I observed the queue growing longer. To pass the time, I roamed nearby stores and returned at 9:30 PM to collect my order. The enthusiasm of the crowd amazed me as the line had only grown.I estimate that a typical day at this outlet might see around 100 orders, but on this promotional day, they likely handled 500-600.
Customers were also engaging with a barcode game for discounts on their next order, adding to the brand's customer retention strategy. Many, like me, were first-time visitors. These modern marketing trends—offering significant discounts, engaging customers with games, and creating brand awareness—are highly effective.
They draw in new customers, provide an opportunity to taste the product at a #discounted rate, and encourage repeat visits if the experience is enjoyable. Big brands like #Zomato and #Zepto employ similar strategies like plus membership at Rs 30 and giveaways free gifts with great success.
As a consumer keen on understanding current trends, I find these marketing tactics fascinating. Not only did I enjoy the waffles, but I also gained insight into effective customer engagement strategies.
