For Harsha Vardhan Reddy P V, beauty is about feeling at ease and confident in your own skin. But this wasn’t always the case! “To my young self, beauty seemed more like an ordeal than an enhancement. Growing up, I had a less-than-pleasant experience with beauty rituals, thanks to my beloved grandmother. Fairness was a significant concern in our South Indian household and my grandma was a firm believer in the power of Multani Mitti face packs. Every time she'd apply that earthy paste on my face, it felt like a small battle! Hence, my first brush with beauty was a mixed bag of emotions. However, this perception gradually began to change, thanks to a more pleasant re-introduction to beauty through fragrances. My earliest positive experiences with fragranced beauty products were soaps and shower gels from brands like Khadi. These products weren't just about cleansing; they were tiny, aromatic escapes that turned mundane shower routines into delightful sensory experiences. This growing love for fragrances laid a solid foundation for my personal and professional journey in the beauty industry. Working at Purplle now, I channel that evolved appreciation for products into helping others find joy in their beauty routines. Beauty, for me, transitioned from a burdensome task to a delightful exploration of scents and self-care, shaping not only my career but also my personal growth.” Now that’s just delightful. But for a young man entering the beauty industry must not have been an easy task! We asked Harsha how has his experience been, exploring beauty with Purplle. “Working at Purplle has been a unique & enlightening experience for me. As a 28-year-old male, I initially faced the challenge of understanding the preferences and needs of female consumers. To bridge this gap, I've relied heavily on data-driven insights, customer feedback, and collaboration with female colleagues. One particularly meaningful instance was helping my mom, who is hyperallergic to most cosmetics. Using my knowledge of ingredients and formulations, I researched and found products that were safe for her. This personal experience deepened my empathy and understanding of the importance of safe and effective beauty products.” Well, that’s a good son! Wrapping up our conversation, we asked Harsha what he liked the most about working in the beauty industry. “Working at Purplle has broadened my understanding and appreciation of the beauty industry, thanks in large part to the guidance and expertise of the cosmetologists on my team. This experience has also allowed me to contribute to an industry that boosts confidence and self-care. My passion for packaging and design adds an extra layer of excitement to my work.” #PurplleBeautyBeat is a series in which we speak to the people behind Purplle about all things beauty. Through these conversations, we delve into what beauty truly means to the brand and understand what drives its people to envision a world of Beauty without Barriers.

In a truly humbling event, we have closed a ₹1000cr funding round led by a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), along with participation from other investors. We’re extremely thrilled by this investment because it has helped strengthen our belief in our mission. What mission, you ask? Well, there are barriers to beauty that make it seem unattainable to a big section of the Indian masses. Some of these barriers are tangible, like availability of good-quality products at affordable prices. While some others are more ambiguous in nature, like the lack of innovation in products with regard to the diverse landscape of India. We are on a mission to break these barriers. In our CEO & Co-founder Manish Taneja's words, “It has been our mission to democratise beauty and make it accessible to all. While we have reached many beauty lovers across India, we have a long way to go in our journey. Turning our vision into reality, we are glad to have ADIA and all our investors reinforcing belief in our long-term vision of building a large, sustainable, profitable business. We will continue to constantly innovate, leverage our technology and data capability to provide our customers the best omni-channel experience in beauty and personal care.” Currently, we serve the beauty needs of customers in tier 2/3+ micro-markets, expanding beyond just the metro cities. Investments like these will help us make deeper inroads in the Indian markets and encourage us to take bolder steps and make a bigger impact. So here’s to an incredible future, to a world of Beauty without Barriers. #BeautyWithoutBarriers #Purplle #Investment #Funding #AIDA #BeautyIndustry

Frugality has played a key role in shaping our destiny at Purplle. However, being frugal is often misinterpreted as being ‘cheap.’ What it actually means is being mindful of your resources—be it people, money, time, or infrastructure—and using them in an efficient and judicious manner. When frugality becomes a key principle for a business, it inculcates a culture of thoughtful decision-making. Its impact reflects in every aspect of the business, ranging from the organisation’s financial health to its hiring practices. For us, it has been a part of our DNA from Day 1. In an interview with Blume, our founder Manish Taneja recounted, “We never had too much money in the bank for the first eight years. This bred frugality.” With limited funds, making prudent choices and making decisions with thorough foresight of the future became top priorities for us. Over the years, our frugal ethos has helped us scale up by: 1. Inspiring a resourceful mindset in the entire Purplle ecosystem 2. Reminding us to make prudent choices at every step 3. Encouraging technological innovations that help drive efficient hiring practices What are your opinions on frugality? How do you think it can help shape a business? Tell us in the comments. #BusinessPrinciples #BeFrugal #Frugality

When you enter a Purplle Store there are two things that’ll instantly catch your attention.   First, the vibrant shelves lined with great-quality products in every price range, that are curated keeping the needs of every Indian woman in mind. From skincare and makeup to personal care and hygiene, our stores have something for everyone.   Second, you’ll notice our warm and welcoming Beauty Experts who’ll go above and beyond to make you feel beautiful. Because we know that beauty can be intimidating. Shopping for beauty products, especially when you’re exploring new brands, can be quite a challenge if you don’t have the right support. And so, in addition to their extensive product knowledge, our Beauty Experts are also trained to be patient and kind. Their suggestions are not remarks, their concerns are not opinions, and their recommendations are not a pitch. You’ll never feel forced to buy a product and you’ll never feel like you aren’t already beautiful.   When asked for his comment, Nilesh Belani, our Head of Retail had this to say, “At Purplle, we firmly believe that we are only as good as our people. The Beauty Experts at our stores are our true torchbearers. They work relentlessly to make our customers feel comfortable and offer them tailor-made solutions based on their needs. As we prepare to make our Stores a destination for every household across India, we are confident that our vibrant space and warm hospitality will continue to encourage our customers to enjoy beauty to the fullest.”   Beauty is our culture.
