It’s easier to talk about ‘the elephant in the room’ when you add a touch of humor, proved comedian Aayushi Jagad, as she addressed Principal Global Services employees as a part of #PrideMonth celebrations. Amid laughter and jokes, Aayushi shared how members of the #LGBTQIA+ community are just like everyone else – they eat the same food, have the same insecurities and vulnerabilities, and have the same talent to work in an organization. She reminded the group that the only difference is ‘who you are’ (on a gender spectrum) and whose hand you want to hold (orientation), but when you take that out, we are all just ‘people’. How often do we realize that commonly used greetings like ‘Hello Guys!’, ‘Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen’ and similar phrases, can cause to hurt feelings as we unintentionally exclude people? The truth is our word choice does have an impact. This was one of the learnings we had during an awareness session on ‘Embracing #LGBTQAI+’ by Ashish Chopra (He/Him). The session helped many of us bust myths, understand the significance of the use of pronouns, and recognize the adverse effects of some commonly used words and phrases. Thank you, Ashish, for the insightful, interactive, and interesting session during Pride month celebrations at Principal Global Services. We celebrated our global technology community at the 8th Principal Technology Conference, which was held from April 23-26, 2024. The event culminated in a keynote session that brought together industry luminaries Irina Ghose (Managing Director, Microsoft India) and Sameer Dhanrajani (Chief Executive Officer, AIQRATE advisory & consulting | 3AI), moderated by Madhavi Dahanukar (She/Her) (Head of Principal Global Services). Irina and Sameer shared their unique perspectives on the evolving landscape of technology. Adding zing to the 8th Principal Technology Conference was our ‘Capture the Flag’ challenge. Cyber security enthusiasts at Principal Financial Group put their skills to the test by identifying vulnerabilities and collecting as many ‘flags’ as they could in a test environment. To increase the challenge quotient, employees had just a few hours, along with strict norms, to finish each round. Experimentation and excitement went hand in hand, and Principal Global Services had its winners by the end of the game time. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has been getting lot of attention recently from the academic researchers as well as business practitioners. Every business, small or big, wants to test the capabilities of GenAI and see how they can utilize it. Many organizations, including Principal Financial Group, have already embarked on this journey.
