🌏 On overcoming barriers in India's booming carbon trading market 🌦️ India's carbon trading startups are facing challenges in securing VC funding due to regulatory gaps and lack of global market linkages. This despite being in a booming $2.1 billion global market and contributing 17% of voluntary carbon credits from 2012-2022. While Indian policies like the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme aim to strengthen the domestic market, the absence of mandatory validation and international connections hinders the true valuation of Indian carbon credits. As the ecosystem matures, startups must diversify and establish robust monitoring systems to ensure quality and attract future investments. Mark Kahn emphasizes, "“Voluntary carbon markets are growing and reporting standards are getting more rigorous for sure. But is it a completely settled matter on how these credits are going to be priced? Is there price visibility one decade into the future?
