This is a common pattern in SaaS markets. Companies like Atlassian start as disruptors. They win. They become incumbents. Then a next wave like Linear emerges. The incumbent started as a simple single product. Over time they expand. They go up market. They trade simplicity for robustness. They become multi-product, suite, bundle, and/or platform. This is all smart and a good strategy for scaling, but it creates an opening. Some customers don’t want robustness (i.e. complexity). The challenger enters with a “modern” experience around a narrower solution, wins customer segments that are frustrated by the increasingly complex incumbent, and builds around new paradigms like AI. Linear’s series B last month shows it in action. Linear is profitable on ~50 headcount. They have “thousands” of customers, just 4 years since founding. In 2021 some SaaS companies raised $35M on nice PowerPoint. But in the 2023 return to rigor, you know this kind of investment is reserved for a real business. Their website highlights this challenger approach: “the new standard for modern software development.” In the table below I listed a few other examples. Each has their own nuances, but many common themes. I think category creation has a place, but personally, I’m excited to build my business in an *existing* category. With that, I’m looking for more examples to study. Where else do you see this pattern playing out? #marketing #B2B #SaaS

In an emerging economy like India, with a rapidly increasing middle class and growing businesses, the demand for housekeeping services is on the rise. According to a report by the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the housekeeping market in India was valued at $6 billion in 2022, and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5% from 2023 to 2028. However, a significant challenge lurks within this growth narrative. Much of the housekeeping market in India remains fragmented and unorganised, which poses a substantial hurdle for enterprises in hiring and managing housekeeping staff efficiently. Identifying this disarray as a ripe opportunity, humblx, a forward-thinking startup, emerged on the scene in 2018. Established by Samir Dayal Singh, Ujjwal Kumar, and Yadev Jayachandran, humblx aims to bridge the organizational gap between enterprises and housekeeping staff through its innovative Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. The crux of humblx’s solution lies in its QR-based platform, a simple yet effective tool in modernizing the housekeeping sector. Through this platform, staff managers can seamlessly schedule shifts, create and assign tasks, track the progress of housekeeping staff, and receive notifications upon task completion. The interactive platform also fosters a data-driven environment by generating insightful reports and analytics, which in turn, drive operational efficiency. Moreover, the provision for remote monitoring of staff and gathering public feedback on their performance adds a layer of transparency and accountability, which is often amiss in the unorganised sector. humblx operates on a usage-based pricing model which makes it accessible for a wide range of enterprises. With its basic plan starting at a mere INR 200 per QR code per month, it's an attractive proposition for businesses seeking to streamline their housekeeping operations without incurring hefty expenses. The startup's clientele speaks volumes about its impact and credibility, boasting names like Sulabh, State Health Society Maharashtra, AIIMS Patna, and Garv Toilets. In a nutshell, humblx embodies a blend of innovative technology and a profound understanding of the Indian market dynamics. Its mission to organize and streamline the housekeeping sector resonates with the broader objective of fostering operational efficiency and professional integrity in a market rife with untapped potential. As humblx continues to grow and refine its solutions, it's setting a precedent for how technology can be leveraged to tackle traditional industry challenges. By creating a structured, transparent, and efficient ecosystem, humblx is not just solving a business problem; it's contributing to raising the bar of the service industry in India, marking a significant stride towards a more organized and professional housekeeping market. When everything in the Hospital is Digital, why is Housekeeping still running on Paper? Why ? - is Cleaning not an important ? - is Housekeeping a cheap process ? A 600 bed hospital spends close to 1 Cr on their Housekeeping Staff. While all the services may be world class, what 70-80% patients remember forever, is the staff support and cleanliness. For the next 3 days, team humblx is at Medicall , Delhi. We RnD inside hospitals and bring the best practices to other industries such as Hotels, Malls, Corporates, Factories etc. For the next 2-3 days, humblx team is at Medicall Delhi and it's been a blast.

Along with TIDES - IIT Roorkee, HDFC Bank invested to help us bring Financial and Health Services to our Housekeeping and Sanitation Workforce in the country. The industry is highly unorganised and the people at the grassroots are far away from the basic financial support. Salaries are often delayed, no provision for Early Salaries, lack of health insurance etc. They often don't have a bank account, let alone a salary account. humblx is committed to bringing the best technologies available in the world, to this underserved but very important industry. Imagine no Housekeeping for 3 days in your office, workplace, hospitals, mall etc.. It's sad that the Digitisation that we consider as innovation, disruption, or impossible, is actually one very obvious thing to do. Why have we overlooked it for all these years ???
