The white neckbands are believed to represent the Tablets of Stone, which are the 10 commandments that Moses received from God. The somber hues and dignified cut of the attire serve as a reminder of the gravity and solemnity of the legal profession, and the weighty responsibilities that lawyers bear. Furthermore, the attire worn by lawyers serves as a great equalizer, effacing distinctions of gender, race, and socio-economic status. In the hallowed halls of justice, all lawyers are equal and united in their pursuit of truth and justice. In conclusion, the sanctity of lawyers' attire is a testament to the enduring values of the legal profession – values that transcend the ephemeral and the mundane. This announcement came through an affidavit filed by the Rajasthan govt to the Supreme Court on Tuesday amid rising concerns over fraudulent and forced religious conversions nationwide. The matter reached the Supreme Court through a petition filed in 2022 by BJP member and advocate Ashwini Upadhyaya, who called for stringent measures to curb fraudulent conversions achieved through intimidation, threats, deception and monetary benefits. Recognising the gravity and potential national security implications, the Supreme Court sought responses from the central govt and various states. Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat, have already enacted laws to regulate religious conversions. These laws are currently under challenge in the Supreme Court through separate public interest litigations, which have been combined with Upadhyaya's petition. Additional Advocate General Shiv Mangal Sharma, representing #Rajasthan, confirmed that the state currently does not have specific laws governing religious conversions. He affirmed the state’s adherence to existing guidelines. "We have assured the apex court that the state govt is strictly adhering to the guidelines issued by it as well as the Rajasthan high court and the central govt," Sharma told TOI on Wednesday. Produced by Yashraj Films and slated for release on Netflix today, the film has been halted by an ad-interim order issued by Justice Sangeetha K Vishen. Notices have been issued to Yashraj Films, #NetflixIndia, and others involved. The decision came in response to a plea by devotees of Lord Krishna and followers of the Pustimarg sect, arguing that the movie could disrupt public order and incite violence against their sect and Hinduism. The film is allegedly based on the 1862 Libel Case, containing severely blasphemous remarks about Hinduism.
