  • Holographic Keyboard Display

    Filed US US9766806B2

Embodiments that relate to displaying holographic keyboard and hand images in a holographic environment are provided. In one embodiment depth information of an actual position of a user's hand is received. Using the depth information, a holographic hand image representing the user's hand is displayed in a virtual hand plane in the holographic environment. In response to receiving a keyboard activation input from the user and using the depth information, the holographic keyboard image is…

In one embodiment depth information of an actual position of a user's hand is received. Using the depth information, a holographic hand image representing the user's hand is displayed in a virtual hand plane in the holographic environment. In response to receiving a keyboard activation input from the user and using the depth information, the holographic keyboard image is adaptively displayed in a virtual keyboard plane in the holographic environment at a virtual distance under the holographic hand image representing the user's hand.

  • Keywords extraction and enrichment via categorization systems

    Issued US 20120166441

Techniques for determining a set of keywords associated with a document are provided. A document is received that may be classified into a taxonomy that includes a plurality of categories. A categorization ranking is determined for each category for the received document. A set of categories of the taxonomy having highest categorization rankings is determined for the received document. Documents representing the set of categories having highest categorization rankings are combined together into…

Techniques for determining a set of keywords associated with a document are provided. A document is received that may be classified into a taxonomy that includes a plurality of categories. A categorization ranking is determined for each category for the received document. A set of categories of the taxonomy having highest categorization rankings is determined for the received document. Documents representing the set of categories having highest categorization rankings are combined together into a cumulative representative text that includes a plurality of terms. A cumulative term corpus importance score is determined for each term in the cumulative representative text. The cumulative term corpus importance score for a particular term indicates an importance of the particular term in a context of the cumulative representative text. A set of terms of the cumulative representative text having highest cumulative term corpus importance scores is selected to be keywords for the received document.

  • Movie Discovery System

    Issued US 20120324374

A movie browsing system may use a combination of long term and session based preferences to help a user browse movies using microcategories. The user preferences may be stored as microcategory weights, where the session based weights may change during a session as the system learns the types of movies a user wishes to see at that time. The long term microcategory weights may change at a slower rate than the session weights. The system may present a diverse set of microcategories to a user in an…

The system may present a diverse set of microcategories to a user in an effort to diverge the search and learn the user's current interest, and may refine the weights as the user browses to converge to a desired movie. A user interface may operate on a television screen with a minimum of user input controls to navigate the browsing system while still collecting user preferences.

Projects

  • Deep3D

Illusory 3D windows “popping out” of the display, merely based on visual motion-parallax created using real-time eye-tracking (as in Johnny-Lee’s Wiimote-based demo, only using a simple webcam instead for the face-detection and eye-tracking).

  • Virtual Glass

Precise drawing on an imaginary glass, with respective tactile feedback, by tracking a hand-held LED device. Using Kinect sensor and the Xbox SDK.

    See project
  • ViewPad Piano (aka "Ghost")

Virtual-hand segmentation playing directly on a virtual piano, while physical-hand is hidden from view. Tactile feedback is synced with visual moment of touch seen on the display, hence increasing immersion (inspired by "rubber hand illusion" experiments of concurrent visual-tactile feedback). Image is taken from a simple webcam (done in the pre-Kinect era...).

  • Mayumana SamaSama-2012 Event

    -

Over ~2 months, about 50000 visitors have enjoyed standing in front of the huge 20x3 meters display and controlling the Mayumana artist "choir" by merely pointing at virtual buttons presented on screen.
This work was part of the Sama-Sama-2012 park, and introduced a new form of using Kinect (sensor observing vertically from above), for video and music control on a huge display, based on precise finger-pointing inference. It required a solo end-to-end invention/development/deployment, as well…

This work was part of the Sama-Sama-2012 park, and introduced a new form of using Kinect (sensor observing vertically from above), for video and music control on a huge display, based on precise finger-pointing inference. It required a solo end-to-end invention/development/deployment, as well as ongoing coordination and integration with the Mayuamana designers and the audio/video content developers.

  • Alice ("through the looking glass")

    -

Introducing a magical holographic world "through the looking glass", using only Kinect and a regular display, positioned behind a homemade half-silvered mirror.
Utilizing the brain's tendency to co-locate jointly moving objects, we generate an illusory 3D holographic interactive environment around your own reflection.
