Recently, the British Council in Israel hosted a reception led by British Ambassador to Israel, Simon Walters to announce new funding opportunities. Over 50 academics, entrepreneurs, investors, ESG experts, and Wohl Clean Growth Alliance grantees attended. The British Council team introduced two calls for proposals for researchers, start-ups, NGOs, and companies tackling clean growth challenges, funded by Wohl Legacy. The Ambassador emphasised bilateral collaboration in science and technology, thanking Wohl Legacy and the Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology. Jo Cohen, Israel Director of Wohl Legacy, highlighted the program's impact on research and relationships. Now it's really official! 🌟 I recently joined British Embassy Israel as the Department for Business and Trade's Country Director for Israel, and I’m particularly excited about the opportunities this brings for enhancing the trade and investment relationship between the UK and Israel. It is of course early days in terms of shaping the new Labour Government’s precise policies and priorities, but a number of key parameters are already very clear – and they’re good news for international traders and investors: ☑       The UK Govt’s #1 priority is economic growth 📈. As Labour's manifesto said, “Britain is a proud trading nation and flourishing international business is a vital part of our plan for growth. Openness to trade allows our firms to grow and delivers greater choice and value for consumers.” ☑ UK domestic policy will open up major opportunities for international #investors – e.g. a new Industrial Strategy, powering clean energy transition, an Infrastructure Strategy, encouragement to invest, stable business taxation, addressing key challenges such as planning and grid connection ☑ We will #collaborate internationally to open new trade growth – our overseas network will expand markets for British exporters, work to modernise trade rules, promote deeper trade and co-operation including through the WTO ☑ We will deepen ties with our friends, neighbours and allies – resetting the relationship, removing unnecessary barriers to trade and seeking new agreements.
