We are proud and excited to share that HaGal Sheli has been chosen to receive the President's Award for Strengthening Israel's Resilience in Routine and Emergency Situations. Following the events of October 7 this year, the award will be given to citizens and organizations that demonstrate exceptional volunteer spirit and act promptly and effectively to strengthen Israeli society during its difficult time. We want to thank our excellent partners over the years and those who have stepped up during this period, the HaGal Sheli team, the municipalities, and the communities that have chosen to trust us and embark on a courageous and collective journey together. We appreciate all our educational and therapeutic program participants who bravely choose to embark on the journey between the waves and the soul. Receiving the award strengthens our commitment to be there for everyone in need. Together, we all create waves of hope that are so needed these days.

Earlier this year, I realized I wanted to give back. I’ve spent the last year and a half chasing the hustle. And sure, making money is fun. But this year, I realized I wanted to focus some more of my energy outward. And I’m pleased to announce I’ve found the perfect place for me to do that. Rachel Kaplan, a great friend and incredible human with a heart of gold who also spends half of her life on her surfboard, introduced me to HaGal Sheli (meaning: My Wave). It’s an organization doing amazing work with youth at risk as well as tons of individuals who survived war tragedies and the atrocities that happened in Israel on October 7th. HaGal Sheli empowers youth by providing them with a space to connect and heal, using the sea as its medium. The kids involved learn tools for overcoming life’s challenges, facing fears, and coping with failures. I’m so grateful to be volunteering as a surf instructor in one of these groups for the next few months. It also officially makes me the ultimate stereotype: an Australian surf instructor 🏄♀️ To learn more about how you can support this incredible NGO, either DM me or check out their website here >> https://lnkd.in/d9euPVH5

The thoughts of the friends who were murdered and the sounds of gunfire still haunt Lisa months after she escaped the massacre in Nova Festival by jumping onto a passing car. "My whole head was outside and I prayed not to get shot," she recalls the crazy ride. Lisa participates in "Tools from the Waves," a program by HaGal Sheli (My Wave), trying to cope with the severe trauma she endured. She talks about the pain that never leaves her and the tranquility she finds among the waves. 🌊✨ "The challenge at sea floats all emotions. Before joining the program, it was very difficult for me to share; I always felt that others went through harder things and my friends were murdered, so what does it matter what I feel. But here, I have a space to talk about it. It goes far beyond surfing." For the full article on N12 >> https://lnkd.in/dUUhfBBr

“IZUN Village” and “Hagal Sheli” non profit organizations, operate treatment programs for young adults who’ve experienced trauma and crisis. One of the mutual projects has been formed in the “IZUN Arena” center in Herzliya, which has been used as a home to hold and process the emotions and sensations of the 7/10 survivors and their families. Our program "Tools from the waves" formed by "Hagal Sheli", and in partnership with the surfing academy that has signed on with tremendous love and enthusiasm, has dozens of participants undergoing treatment through wave surfing. In this nurturing partnership, we’ve hosted the German ambassador in Israel, mr. Steffen Seibert, along with other embassy representatives, who have come to learn about our activities. Participants and therapists from the program have explained to the center's guests about the emotional experiences that occur between sea waves. Our community members and we are here to help you through this complex journey. Together we’ll continue to create waves of hope Yaron Waksman Ephraim Shapiro

Alma Or was kidnapped to Gaza with her brother. Their mother, Yonat, was murdered and their father, Dror, is still held captive. Yossi, the father of Ofir and Oren, who are prisoners, was killed in captivity and his body is still held there. Three brave and amazing girls are coping with the new reality and come every week from the Dead Sea to my surf center in Bat Yam. 🌊🏄🏾♀️✨ Now they share their strong yearnings, their challenges, and the way the cope with the help of the waves. Over 1,200 participants are taking part in the "Tools from the Waves" program - HaGal Sheli's unique program for treating trauma victims through wave surfing, including dozens of youth from Kibbutz Beeri. We will continue to create waves of hope 💙

The first time the youth from Kibbutz Be'eri arrived at Bat Yam, during the peak of winter, we could see that an extraordinary process was beginning. It was a journey of two and a half hours each way, transitioning from the heat of the Dead Sea in shorts and flip-flops to surfing gear. Adapting to the cold and stormy waters required some tough adjustments. Week by week, we discovered determined, resilient youth who were coping with life's challenges - loss, uncertainty, and an incomprehensible reality. From meeting to meeting, we uncovered the hidden strengths in each of them through the connection between the waves and life. The sea challenged us with storms, currents, and repeated falls from the surfboard, evoking feelings and emotions that allowed groups to share, process, and cope. We successfully completed the 'Tools from the Waves' program, marking the first part of the joint journey of the Be'eri community and my wave. Before moving on to the next stage, we paused to express gratitude, appreciation, and to reinforce our successes. On this occasion, we extend our thanks to the Be'eri community and our amazing partners from the kibbutz for their trust throughout the journey, to the Ashkelon Regional Council and the Ministry of Welfare for supporting the initiative, to the dedicated staff, and to the dozens of dear participants who chose to embark on this journey with us. We stand by you, ready to assist as needed, with love and appreciation.
