As our #QA department moved to a new area in our office, we caught up with Ilan, the department director, for a brief chat about the role, the department teams, and working at Camtek 💚 🎙️ So, Ilan, in three words, how would you describe the atmosphere in the department? "Vigilance, focus, and creativity!" 🎙️ How is your department structured? "We have two teams, one for manual testing and one for automated testing. Additionally, our team leaders have diverse specializations that provide an extra layer of support to the department." 🎙️ What values guide the department? "Out-of-the-box thinking, perseverance, and determination are the values that accompany us in our daily work to ensure the release of software versions and multi-disciplinary systems at the highest quality level." 🎙️ And what about some fun? Tell us about a particularly enjoyable activity you did with the department. "We've done several extreme activities, like off-road driving with RZRs, horseback riding, and even Segway tours!" 🎙️ What do you think are the most important qualities for QA, and how would you define success in this role? "Seriousness, creativity, perseverance, attention to detail, systemic understanding, and the ability to handle simple and complex tasks are required. Success in this role is the ability to identify all bugs in the system through efficient testing cycles, solve critical and functional bugs, and meet all system requirements to ensure the highest quality standard." 🎙️ What do people not know about the QA role, and what makes it so important? "Software testers have the broadest knowledge of system operation, system use, and problem-solving. We test and approve all functional requirements and configurations, making us experts in system optimization and troubleshooting." 🎙️ What makes you feel proud? "The success of Camtek and the strong sense of belonging we have, along with a high sense of commitment, even during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic and the current war. The human capital at Camtek drives the company to break technological and business records” 🎙️ If you could switch roles with another employee for one day, who would it be and why? "I would want to be a service engineer at Camtek who accompanies a long-time strategic client to understand their satisfaction with our systems and gather improvement ideas from their experience." 🎙️ How does the world of QA blend into your personal life? "As a software engineer working in the QA field for the past 25 years, my commitment to high quality is reflected in my personal life as well. Therefore, friends and family often seek my advice due to my deep analytical skills and logical thinking, which result in objective and comprehensive opinions." 🎙️ And finally, what is your favorite thing about working in Migdal HaEmek? "It is a green and pleasant place, offering all the necessary services, located a short drive from the north, and of course, without traffic jams."

Thanks to the amazing initiative led by Cannis Chan, our Admin & Operations Director in Camtek Asia, we organized a conference in Hong Kong, where representatives from all branches attended to connect, learn from each other, and teach each other. Even in the realm of international operations, where video calls and emails provide convenient communication, it's crucial to make an effort to meet face-to-face. During the event, we deepened our understanding and usage of company management software, including SAP, Salesforce, CAMTEK Portal, and Rainbow, ensuring that all participants can use these tools efficiently and effectively. We also aimed to improve the meeting by enhancing the efficiency of the training and providing more advanced training content in a more professional manner. We shared and heard about the challenges, desires, and needs of the different branches, aiming to collaboratively address issues and improve in the future. More importantly, we got to know each other better, strengthened the connections between employees across branches, and fostered a collaborative and pleasant work environment. Such meetings help align everyone, fill knowledge gaps, and hear directly from Camtek employees worldwide about their challenges and aspirations. Continuing the tradition of volunteering, this Shavuot, we had the honor of distributing cheesecakes to the elderly in Migdal HaEmek in collaboration with the Heart to Plate organization. In addition, we distributed sunflower bouquets to our employees, which are a donation to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, to remind us all that no holiday is the same without our abducted loved ones.
