Check out Adalah's latest podcast episode! Three years ago, in May 2021, thousands of Palestinians led a mass popular uprising, known as "The Unity Uprising", across Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and inside Israel, sparked by Israel’s escalating colonial policies in Jerusalem. Within Israel, protests in multiple Palestinian towns were suppressed by police and special units using militarized means. In Episode 22 of Adalah’s podcast, Adalah Attorneys Nareman Shehadeh Zoabi and Adi Mansour discuss the role of the criminal legal system and law enforcement during the May 2021 events, the arming of Jewish Israeli civilians and “civilian” militias and the threat this creates for Palestinians, and how repressive trends that emerged then are shaping Israel’s current crackdown on Palestinian citizens during its assault on Gaza. https://lnkd.in/e2Vmyajb
About us
Adalah ("Justice" in Arabic) is an independent human rights organization and legal center. Established in November 1996, it works to promote and defend the rights of Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, 1.2 million people, or 20% of the population, as well as Palestinians living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Adalah seeks to achieve equal individual and collective rights for Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel and to defend against gross human rights violations against Palestinian residents of the OPT. To achieve these goals, Adalah: - Brings impact litigation and other legal interventions before Israeli courts and state authorities; - Provides legal consultation to individuals, NGOs, and institutions; - Appeals to international institutions and fora; - Organizes legal seminars and conferences; - Publishes reports and analyses of critical legal issues; - Conducts extensive media outreach in Arabic, Hebrew and English locally and internationally; - Trains legal apprentices and new lawyers in human rights litigation and advocacy.

On 15 May 2024 Palestinians marked the 76th anniversary of the Nakba - the term depicting the profound catastrophe, leading to the near-complete devastation of Palestinian society with the establishment of Israel in 1948. For many Palestinians, the Nakba persists as Israel has since continued its policies of dispossession and expulsion in Israel and in the OPT throughout the decades since 1948. #Nakba #Gaza
76 years on, a second Nakba is unfolding in Gaza

On 30 March each year, Palestinians commemorate Land Day, the day on which Israeli forces in 1976 killed six Palestinian citizens of Israel and wounded and arrested hundreds of others during protests against the government's expropriation of Palestinian lands in the Galilee. Land Day has become a symbol of Palestinians’ struggle against land confiscation, forced displacement and policies of Judaization on both sides of the Green Line, and is observed as a day of solidarity and remembrance, highlighting the enduring resilience of the Palestinian people in pursuit of their rights. 48 years on, Israeli policies of dislocation, dispossession and displacement persist relentlessly both in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). This year, Palestinians observe this anniversary amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
