OIG accessibility statement

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is committed to making information and services accessible.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Level AA (WCAG AA) is a set of internationally recognized standards developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to ensure that web content is accessible to a wide range of individuals, including those with disabilities. Meeting WCAG AA compliance means that a website has implemented specific design and development practices to enhance accessibility. These guidelines cover various aspects such as perceivability, understandability, operability, and robustness. By complying with the WCAG AA, websites strive to provide a better user experience for all users, regardless of their abilities.

OIG’s website has successfully implemented WCAG AA accessibility compliance on pages hosted on igchicago.org, excluding any referenced documents, third-party sites, and integrations, such as links to PDF reports and data dashboards.

Firstly, the website ensures perceivability by providing alternatives for non-text content, such as images, through alternative text descriptions. This allows users who are visually impaired or have difficulty accessing visual content to understand the information being conveyed.

Secondly, the website achieves operability by implementing keyboard accessibility. This means that all functionality and navigation on the website can be accessed and operated solely through a keyboard, without the need for a mouse. This benefits individuals with motor disabilities who rely on keyboard navigations to browse websites effectively.

Lastly, the website focuses on understandability by using clear and simple language in its content. It ensures that the information is presented in a logical and organized manner, making it easier for users with cognitive disabilities to comprehend and navigate through the site. Additionally, the website maintains consistency in its design and layout, enabling users to predict and understand the functionality of various elements throughout the site.

By incorporating these and other WCAG AA guidelines, OIG’s website demonstrates a strong commitment to accessibility, allowing a broader range of users, including those with disabilities, to access and engage with its content effectively.
