How can you debunk common myths about manufacturing engineering?
“Manufacturing Engineering is boring and repetitive” You can work at a company making a single product. Year after year. First impression is that this epitomizes “boring + repetitive“. The engaged engineer or engineering team take a different view. - How can we make the product easier to use? - How can we reduce manufacturing cost? - Let’s do something to appeal to a bigger market. - What can we do to improve yields by 20%? - Can we use more environmentally friendly materials? - let’s set up a second manufacturing facility in a new region. Manufacturing is a dynamic pursuit. If you are not loving and improving, you get left behind Constant moving and improving doesn’t give boredom a chance.

What do you do if you encounter technical interview questions that stump you?
Interviews aren't about knowing all the right answers. It's a conversation. A friendly game of verbal tennis. The interviewer is trying to determine if you are a good technical and team fit. You are trying to get a feel for company culture and if it's a creative and fun place to work. A conversation. Two way interaction. If you get a question that leaves you speechless then come clean. "That's a great question. I do not know much about X. Can you tell me more about why X is important to you and to this role? " Keep the conversation going. A good interview is more than a question + answer session.

What do you do if your mentees are struggling to understand their goals and expectations?
It's not what you say It's what's heard Something is unclear? You have to accept responsibility Responsibility for the communication "Hmmm, I missed on detail or delivery or follow up" Action Get back to your mentee Explain the shortfall Communicate the intent in a better way Ask for the message to be communicated back to you Fill in the gaps Reiterate the important bits Decide on a better follow-up plan
