Exciting developments in the construction sector! An Bord Pleanála has approved plans for a new €1.2 billion data centre campus in Ennis, Co Clare, marking a significant milestone for Art Data Centres Ltd. Spanning 145 acres and comprising six data halls, this project is set to create 400-450 permanent jobs once operational, with up to 1,200 jobs during construction over six years. CEO Tom McNamara FRICS FSCSI highlighted the project's alignment with Ennis' 2040 Economic Plan, emphasizing its role in supporting national tech industry ambitions. The approval also enables progress on critical infrastructure and power connections, supporting Ireland's enterprise strategy and economic growth. There is little research examining the efficacy of the programme contingency. I am interested in your experiences in the submission of claims for Extension of Time and the Programme Contingency. Review to be carried out into construction of new Sligo Garda Station

Kenny Lyons & Associates, in conjunction with LUC Urban Design  and TOBIN Engineers recently published/ produced a Part 8 Planning proposal for Longford County Council for the Pobal le Cheile Project located in Ballymahon. Longford County Council together with the Ballymahon Town Team, Bridgeways Family Resource Centre, Ballymahon Day Care Centre, and Ballymahon Men’s Shed have been successful in securing funding through the Department of Rural and Community Development, Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) for this project. The scheme involves the re-purposing of a number of existing vacant and partially occupied buildings for active Community use. The project will place these buildings at the heart of the town as they will play a key role in delivery of necessary social services.   Community resources will be consolidated within the Former Convent of Mercy, the Dean Egan Library, and the former Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Colmcille School House, to create a cluster of activity within Ballymahon. Some of these buildings are protected structures. All three buildings are to be refurbished, extended as necessary with the public realm between them enhanced to create a hive of activity and a sense of place within the town. A new community hall on the grounds of the Former Convent of Mercy has also been proposed along with parking and a set-down area. It is hoped the project will cater for the wide range of needs within the community by creating space for the expansion of services while offering opportunities for the provision of new community supports into the future. #planning #community #regeneration

Along with important heritage considerations, conservation also is environmentally beneficial in retaining the captured carbon content of the concrete. Retrofit and retain, rather than replace, where possible. Do it 'sympathetically' to the original design, as the architects might say

The successful completion of Ireland's most extensive lightbulb replacement project to date has taken place, as Fingal County Council installed its last two energy-saving LED bulbs across its network of roads, residential areas and public spaces. The final milestone was reached by the council along the picturesque Coast Road in Malahide and means there have now been 35,315 environmentally friendly LEDs installed to replace their energy-guzzling counterparts throughout the county. With this accomplishment, Fingal has confirmed its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. This large endeavour, which cost around ��8 million, marks a significant step forward in Fingal’s mission to reduce its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices. The switch to LED technology not only enhances illumination, but also promises substantial energy savings and environmental benefits for generations to come. The transition to LED lighting is projected to reduce street lighting energy consumption by over 50% as well as delivering thousands of tonnes of carbon savings. The LED lights are also easier to maintain, particularly as the LEDs are expected to last significantly longer than the older bulbs – those installed by Fingal are specified to have a design life of 20 years, or 80,000 hours minimum. David Storey, Fingal’s Director of Environment, Climate Change & Active Travel, said: “This milestone reinforces our commitment to creating a more resilient and environmentally conscious county for generations to come. Merger & Acquistions - Turner Construction buys Irish engineer Dornan Turner Construction Company has announced that it will acquire the shares of Ireland’s Dornan Engineering for an unspecified amount. Turner hopes the deal will allow ity to attract blue-chip clients in the advanced technology sector, including #datacentres and #biopharma facilities, across #Ireland, the #UK, continental #Europe and #Scandinavia. It is already working on similar schemes in the #Netherlands and #Spain. Dornan was founded in 1966 and has 1,000 employees. It also has a backlog of orders worth an estimated $1.2bn, and is on course to deliver work worth $760m in 2024. The company also operates in the industrial, healthcare, commercial, aviation and education sectors. Brian Acheson, Dornan Engineering’s chief executive, said: “Clients will continue to enjoy the same level of superior service as we deliver complex technical projects within time and on budget. “They will also benefit from the increased scale of Dornan as part of a combined group with over $18bn of turnover.” Mike Kuntz, Turner Construction’s executive vice president, said: “Turner has identified $20bn of advanced technology project opportunities in Europe.” Turner is a subsidiary of German contractor HOCHTIEF, which is controlled by Spanish contractor Grupo ACS.
