Llama 3.1 is the latest advancements in decentralized, open-sourced AI that is allowing builders like Talkpush to build Gen AI-powered features at a fraction of the cost of proprietary LLMs. Are you still paying 2022 prices for your resume parser, your job matching algorithm, your gen AI chatbots, or your candidate ranking tool? If so, we'd be pleased to show you how you could bring that cost down by 80% by the end of the year. (And don't worry, that would would still leave enough profit margin to cover for our R&D efforts)

Starting today, open source is leading the way. Introducing Llama 3.1: Our most capable models yet. Today we’re releasing a collection of new models including our long awaited 405B. Llama 3.1 delivers stronger reasoning, a larger 128K context window & improved support for 8 languages including English — among other improvements. Details in the full announcement ➡️ https://go.fb.me/hvuqhb Download the models ➡️ https://go.fb.me/11ffl7 We evaluated performance across 150+ benchmark datasets across a range of languages — in addition to extensive human evaluations in real-world scenarios. Trained on >16K NVIDIA H100 GPUs, Llama 3.1 405B is the industry leading open source foundation model and delivers state-of-the-art capabilities that rival the best closed source models in general knowledge, steerability, math, tool use and multilingual translation. We’ve also updated our license to allow developers to use the outputs from Llama models — including the 405B — to improve other models for the first time. We’re excited about how synthetic data generation and model distillation workflows with Llama will help to advance the state of AI. As Mark Zuckerberg shared this morning, we have a strong belief that open source will ensure that more people around the world have access to the benefits and opportunities of AI and that’s why we continue to take steps on the path for open source AI to become the industry standard. With these releases we’re setting the stage for unprecedented new opportunities and we can’t wait to see the innovation our newest Llama models will unlock across all levels of the AI community.

#RecFest is 10 years old... Same age as #Talkpush... So why did it take me so long to attend my first one this week? Truth is, after decades of attending events, conferences, and award ceremonies, I had lost faith that these gatherings delivered any value for their attendees, other than giving a few higher HR executives a lame excuse for stepping out of the office and into a friendly spotlight. Usually hosted in a mega conference hall in an industrial area near an airport, where the air is stale, the coffee is watery, and your senses are bombarded with flashlights and tons of swag*, these conferences typically deliver a dozen conversations per day at most, and half of those are with competing vendors. From the onset, you can tell this one is different. First, it's outside, on a site usually reserved for rock concerts and festivals. The crowd is young, or at least acts young... as in no suits, no agenda, relaxed, having a good time. 90% of the audience is made up of practitioners, people who live and breathe recruiting. This definitely makes everyone more open to ideas and making new connections. Congrats for creating this awesome community Jamie Leonard! We were there to showcase Sam the AI Recruiter, which we are officially launching in 10 days' time, and I was expecting to get mostly weird looks and cold shoulders for trying to automate interviewing, which is such a core know-how in talent acquisition. But the reception was super generous and generally positive. We had dozens of great conversations and a few good souls even took the time to be interviewed by Sam and gave us some invaluable feedback. Thanks for trying out Sam Verity Masters Jen Enright CIPD Sharan Gill Ben Ellis Edward Rennie Beatriz Fernandes Sophie Power Matěj Matolín Some of you did this out of curiosity; some of you—I won't say who—I had to bribe with beers, but the result is the same: your feedback is helping us create a better candidate experience for the thousands of candidates that will be interviewed by Sam in 2024. Thanks for being part of the journey! *Definition of "swag": Cheap made-in-China-by-the-Uyghurs plastic crap that advertisers paid the organizers thousands of dollars for the right to throw in a branded "tote bag"**. **Definition of "tote bag": A cheap bag made of cloth that you can carry around your neck like a mule for 5 hours to collect as many brochures as possible with the words "automation" and "innovation" printed all over them. The tote bag is no longer useful when you leave the conference and thus dies in a bin on the way home.

I had a lovely time in Nottingham last week with the First Advantage team. Thanks Su Oakley for the invitation. Great to meet you Catherine Ives, Clare K. and team. I hope you enjoyed the Sam show.... It was the first time we were demonstrating to a live audience how generative AI can be used to do professional background screening over the phone, and I think Sam did rather well in both scenarios (a satisfied and unsatisfied previous employer was asked to share their feedback to Sam). We were careful to take Hung Lee's advice and to change the tone of Sam so that she would speak without that crass Hollywood accent. ;) One question that was fielded on that day was whether Sam would know to probe a bit deeper in case the answer from the employers seemed hesitant. In its release of GPT4o a couple of weeks, OpenAI shared a new exciting feature: the amotion identifier. It can recognize from the speech if the person is happy, sad, etc. Such open sourced models are already available (Example: https://lnkd.in/edRMHwU3) but they are still early stage, and have been known to have a lot of variance (aka wild emotional swings). It will become more mature in the coming months and will be much easier to consume when this service is combined with the OpenAI API. By the end of 2024, Sam should be able to probe deeper when it "senses" that the candidate is not telling the full story. It may never have the intuition of a human, but it will get better with time.... and I believe it will outperform most humans pretty soon. That's nothing to be sad about. We (humans) have better things to do than calling old employers and trying to read between the lines when they are cautiously giving us performance feedback.
